How widespread were/are condom or Tampax vending machines in the US? Other countries had/have them?

When I went to university in 1989, condom machines were a hot political issue in UCD. The Students Union would install a condom vending machine (they were illegal at the time) and after a while the University authorities would take it away. This went on back and forth until the sale of contraceptives was liberalised in about 1992 or 1993.

There are truck-stop style condom and cologne machines in the male washrooms at Terminal 1 of Pearson International Airport. I was 80% sure of that when I first saw this thread, but wanted to double check before posting. Interestingly, I checked Terminal 3 when I was there a couple of weeks ago, and there weren’t any such dispensers. I’ll keep you posted about Terminal 2, so watch for me to bump this thread sometime in the next half century or so!
