How will people react if Covid-19 flares up when the lockdown ends?

Sounds like a terrible burden. Whereabouts is this?

Ontario, Canada. It’s not a burden, it’s just kind of ridiculous. We are not on the verge of some new stage. Basically everything is open except for indoor restaurants and big events/gatherings. I know there’s people who et worked up about how darn important masks are, but they ain’t.

Okee-doke.

So when was your mask law put in place and how much did it help? Like I said, we have so few cases, it won’t really be possible to measure here.

Scroll down on this page to the “New Reported Cases Per Day” graph, which can also be sorted for Deaths Per Day. Sort the chart for Illinois. That’s a good representation of how we’re doing. There is no mask “law” here. Just a suggestion, a reccomendation, and lots of people who are sensible enough to follow the advice.

I’ve been following along, thanks. I was just curious about whether you had noticed a difference in your area when mask laws were introduced but obviously, you don’t.

Follow along more closely: There is no law.

What? That’s what I responded to. You don’t have experience with a mask law. I didn’t know where you lived and some places in the States have them.

Okee-Doke.

Reports I’ve read indicate that masks can be a significant factor.

Actually it was an executive order (not quite law but what gets considered one in these discussions) in Illinois that began May 1. Hard to know what elements of what was done did what but within two weeks of the mask order death rate peaked and began to steadily drop. The timing is consistent with masking increase caused by the order helping. But again, it was not an intervention in isolation of others.

You know, I was always going to soldier on but that article makes me a lot less grumpy. Lol. Thank you!

I am Canadian, hence not in the US, hence our country is dealing with this in a more sane way. So any flareups aren’t going to affect us as hard

Paywall.

Wapo makes their coronavirus coverage free for all, or so I believed. I for one see it without paying. Are you in the US?

I’m in the US and this article, like most if not all of the Washington Post’s coronavirus articles is paywalled - an undissmissable box literally comes up telling you how to subscribe, covering up everything but the headlines. WP and the LA Times seem to be the only papers I see linked to a lot that don’t offer free coronavirus coverage.

There must be some screw up. I know I’ve read their covid stuff for free before and before the paywall box comes up, I managed to cut’n’paste:

" The Washington Post is providing this story for free so that all readers have access to this important information about the coronavirus. For more free stories, [sign up for our Coronavirus Updates newsletter]"

Unless you live in Montreal. If that were a separate country the death per million count would be 833.

Canada’s population is well distributed which has helped to keep the numbers down.

No.

You actually could not be more wrong if you tried.

The Canadian population, however, is highly concentrated geographically. In 2016, two out of three people (66%) lived within 100 kilometres of the southern Canada–United States border, an area that represents about 4% of Canada’s territory.

And again, No. It’s actually quite impressive how wrong you are.

In 2014, almost 82 percent of Canada was urbanized, i.e. more than 80 percent of the Canadian population lived in cities.

It’s actually hard to fathom how wrong that statement was. It exudes wrongness from it’s pores. It would win the gold medal in the Wrong Olympics.

35.5% of Canadians live in one of only three Metropolitan Areas; Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver

55% of Canadians live in one of the top TEN Metropolitan Areas.

Canada is one of the LEAST well distributed populations in the world.
