How Will the Hollywood Left React to the Capture of Saddam?

Prediction: Some attention whore (read George W.) will wear a “We Got Him!” t-shirt, button, arm band, etc. at a press conference.

Anyone think he can handle it with dignity?

So what? The Right and the Left will take whatever political capitol they can out of the situation and to hell with the country at large.

Can anyone see FDR doing a little, “Go Franklin, go Franklin” dance if he had lived to see Hitler confirmed dead?

I couldn’t see FDR doing that, for a whole bunch of reasons.

I bet having seen Hitler’s demise would’ve enabled FDR.

Hey, even Lincoln got to strut in Jefferson Davis’ chair at the end of the war and said something to the effect of victory being sweet.

Hollywood will acknowledge that he was a madman and deserves to be punished, though they will emphasize by the Iraqi people. They will give credit to the Iraqi people, maybe to the US soldiers, everyone but GWB. They will imply that it was specifically timed to make GWB look good. They will say its only symbolic and won’t do anything to stop terrorism. They’ll say it was a personal vendetta by the Bush family etc.

Ya know, they’ll put a left-wing spin on it.

Hopefully they’ll someday at least appreciate that their ability to do so is what makes America better than most of the world (though probably not…)

In all honesty, I don’t think we’ll be hearing much. Michael Moore got booed for expressing viewpoints that happen to be very widely held…imagine how objecting to a development that even the most hardened liberals think is a good thing would pan out. My guess is that most of them, if questioned about it, will give quiet praise and quickly move on.

And I’m with photopat - give him his day in court. True justice can’t be selectively applied.

And now, boys and girls, let’s pretend Al Gore was President and someone said “They will give credit to the Iraqi people, maybe to the US soldiers, everyone but President Gore.” Let’s imagine what the reasoned Conservative response to such a statement would be:

“How dare you godless bleeding heart Liberals insult our troops this way! While your so-called Commander-in-Chief was sucking up photo ops five thousand miles away, real American heroes were fighting and dying in the hellhole Al Gore sent them to to further his left wing agenda and his corporate cronies! Why should Gore get any credit for something he had nothing to do with! My grandfather fought for this country in World War II and how dare you say that has nothing to do with what we’re talking about! Why don’t you liberal traitors leave America if you hate it so much! I gnash my teeth in anger!”

Of course, there would be limits to the invective. Presumedly, no Conservative would say anything about President Gore dodging the draft during Vietnam or stealing the election from another candidate who got more votes.

If Barbra Streisand’s own website is an indication, the Hollywood left’s reaction to Saddam Hussein’s capture may be, “Ignore it as best you can.” Barbra regularly posts links to news stories of current interest. Since Saddam was captured, the two articles she has linked are:

“The Four Degrees: How Europe’s Hottest Summer Shows Global Warming is Transforming Our World”

and

“Pentagon Finds Halliburton Overcharged on Iraq Contracts”

What do you mean by “stealing”? Presidents are not elected by popular votes, they are elected by electoral votes. Gore got more popular votes, but Bush got more electoral votes.

Funny, I thought it was the ability to freely disagree with our leaders that’s what makes America a great country – not this jingoistic “you’re either with us or you’re with the terrorists” claptrap.

I think the Oscar statuette will be a little gold Saddam this year, to show Hollywood’s love for him. Because they’re all Liberals who hate America. Because Liberals hate America.

Because he was given thoise electoral votes by a court, who stopped the democratic process to give them to him.

All of the votes in Florida were counted not once but twice. The Supreme Court, in its majority opinion, ruled that a third recounting of votes only in certain Gore-selected counties and not the whole state was denying the voters of Florida the equal protection of the law (14th Amendment). It would seem that Gore was the one being undemocratic, not Bush.

C’mon folks!

More funny stuff- this is Cafe Society! I don’t want to read rants in this forum unless they’re FUNNY!
.

And by the way, I voted for Gore.

See! That’s the spirit!

Funny stuff!

Thanks Walloon!

. . . and more little people! Show me little people! Little people hitting each other . . . now that’s funny!

[sub]Beautiful tree that was. Og designed it. 600 feet high, bright red, and smelled terrible.[/sub]

YellowTail is a doody-head!
(Well, I thought it was funny…)

Who reads Barbra Streisand’s site other than RW bloggers looking to score points?

Wait a minute . . . Og. “600 feet high, bright red, and smelled terrible”. . . “Og smash”

Good lord. I only now “got” the reference!

:smack:

Yikes! I meant it to be a light-hearted topic. I honestly didn’t expect this much vitriol. No, I wasn’t trolling. I guess I’ll stick to “Funniest Simpsons (fill in the blank)” threads from now on. {/tail between legs}
