How will the Republicans demonize Kamala Harris?

Not debating good idea or not. Just that it wouldn’t pass likely even with both houses.

Trump even complained about voter fraud and said millions of votes were cast illegally and the election was rigged…in 2016, after he won.

They learned a long time ago that the lies don’t have to make sense. There just has to be so many of them that people doubt everything they hear because they’re overwhelmed to figure out what’s real and what’s not. The right’s own base should consider this a betrayal of their trust.

“Nowhere on her birth certificate does it say that she is BLACK OR AFRICAN. … Kamala Harris is NOT black and never has been.”

Pure racism.

If we can’t trust the racial sensitivities of people in 1964, what can we trust? /s

I see one criticism of Harris is that she has not held any press conference, or sit down interview, since becoming the presumptive nominee.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/08/business/media/kamala-harris-press-interviews.html

Is that criticism sticking at all? Personally, it does nothing for me. She’s busy. She’ll get to a sit-down with the media when she gets to it. But I don’t have any sort of ticking clock for when she must do this by or else I will start to dislike her.

It does sort of sound like the media griping about not getting their way.

Smart politics not to sit down while she has some momentum.

From the NTY- who of course thinks they should have special interview privileges. They already threaten harris if she doesnt give them that, and it looks like they are making good on that threat.

Note the trump hasnt given any interviews either. Note that an interview consists of a person asking questions and the politician answering them- trump does not answer questions.

No, but we will see more and more strident articles from the NYT until she gives in. \

Exactly.

The NYT played this game with the “Biden is too old” reporting so now they are letting Harris know they will tear her down if she doesn’t do an interview with the editorial board. Sulzberger, NYT publisher, apparently expects any Democrat who is or wants to be President to kneel and “kiss the ring”. If they fail to do it he will find a way to unleash as much negative BS as possible. Look in the Is The New York Times Pro-Trump thread for more background on this. Continuing this discussion here is likely a hijack so I’m dropping it.

Yes, this. The coverage—outside of the self-interested media griping—has been all about the positivity and joy and momentum. Stepping on that message would be actual campaign malpractice.

And yes, the NYT and various talking heads at CNN and elsewhere will keep up a drumbeat of criticism until the Harris campaign makes her available for interactions that could potentially derail her momentum—because that’s a story they badly want to be able to tell. That’s how media careers are made.

This one is pure nutso-

Republicans are responding to Kamala Harris’s late entry into the 2024 presidential race by claiming the US vice president has promised to ban red meat if elected in November. This is false; the Democratic nominee said during a 2019 panel that she would favor changing dietary guidelines, not outlawing certain foods altogether.

Nuance, thy name isn’t “Republican”.

The media tends to turn negative when they don’t get their way for long enough, historically. It’s come back to haunt a few politicians (e.g. Bush Sr).

She shouldn’t delay too, too long.

So, at least some are just going with straight-up racism.

Is that someone who works as part of the Trump campaign?

He appears to be a pro-Trump twitter troll, but that’s where a lot of this stuff comes from. Look for this to be copied all over the place.

In a campaign rally in Atlanta and other venues, former President Donald Trump has tried to paint Vice President Kamala Harris, a former California attorney general and San Francisco district attorney, as being soft on crime. Several of his claims go beyond the facts or distort her positions.

Trump falsely said that Harris supports “mass amnesty and citizenship” for “all illegals … even criminals.” The Trump campaign pointed to past proposals that Harris has supported, but none would have done that.

He wrongly claimed that there was “no crime” if someone stole less than $1,000 worth of goods, and he was wrong again in saying that Harris “started” such a policy. In California, it’s a felony if someone shoplifts more than $950 worth of goods, but it’s a misdemeanor for values below that.

*In discussing crimes committed by immigrants living in the U.S. illegally, Trump falsely claimed that Harris, when she was the San Francisco DA, “wouldn’t arrest murderers. She wouldn’t arrest anybody.”

Trump claimed that Harris “supports mandatory gun confiscation” that would leave Americans “defenseless in your house.” Harris hasn’t called for confiscating all guns, and her campaign said she no longer supports the mandatory buyback program for “assault weapons” that she called for during her last presidential campaign.

There’s more lies and bullshit, of course.

And then there is this bullshit-

No, Maj. Gen. Higginbotham did not write an article criticizing Kamala Harris’ background

A fake editorial being shared on social media called ‘The History of Kamala Harris’ has been falsely attributed to a Marine Corps general.

That picture is from February, ya know, Black history month.
