You realize that the US has more immigrants than any other country on the planet?
You realize that every other country has borders that they enforce? If THAT is tyranny then the word has lost meaning. Wow arresting 100 when 10,000,000 or so are here ‘undocumentably’?
This is not true in a blanket sense. Some rights apply to citizens and some don’t. The right to a fair trial clearly applies to anyone; the 15th Amendment rather unambiguously only applies to citizens.
I suspect that’s exactly what they did. If not, I’m sure the ACLU has an army lawyers ready to set them straight. “Reasonable suspicion” or “probable cause” doesn’t mean they’re going to get it right all the time. Some innocent people will get arrested. It happens.
You misunderstand me. I’m supporting your proposal. I think liberal enclaves that declare themselves sanctuary cities are the perfect spot to park illegal aliens who are awaiting deportation. I’m not necessarily in favour of arming them, but your eruditeness and articulateness have convinced me it’s worth a try. I just think it’s worthwhile to have the immigrants try to integrate into their new temporary communities. I’m sure there are learned scholars who’ve developed gender neutral vocabularies for the various languages these immigrants speak as their native languages. I want to give these scholars the opportunity to impart their wisdom upon these masses of immigrants.
Don’t you believe that liberalism is a positive virtue? Shouldn’t that virtue be spread to the immigrants whether they like it or not? I just want to know how you’d like the weapons to be managed during the immigrants’ education. Of course they should they bring them if they want to – 2nd amendment right? But is it okay if they leave the weapons with their new liberal neighbours or should possession be mandatory? As for conflict with federal agents, surely spending time among beacon-like advocates of peace will convince the immigrants of the value of non-violence. Right-on, yes?
Ah, another crazy idea from you. This should be fun…and I have the popcorn all ready to go!
An idea that is usually given quite a bit of derision on this board, which makes it a bit ironic that you are making it here with very few right wing gun nuts about.
No. It’s not only a crazy but a stupid idea. This is like saying that drug dealers, being oppressed by the government because they are trying to exercise their livelihood, should be armed to resist the police and protect their right to deal drugs or do other illegal stuff. Illegal immigrants to this country are illegal…they are breaking the law. Rounding them up is only an example of tyranny of the government in a similar way that any police activity is when they ‘round up’ criminals.
All you would manage to do is get more people killed for little or no reason, other than to make some obscure point about the right of the ‘people’ to keep and bare arms means non-citizens too…which is technically true, though not to the same extent that full US citizens do.
I’d be more interested in how the left would respond to such a preposterous notion. The right? My guess is left, right and center would be against it and think whoever was advocating this was nuts. What would be the point in arming and equipping illegal immigrants as if they were para-military units to fight…what? The majority of the US? To what end? Do you WANT illegals to be seen as dangerous, armed invaders, fighting the country they are in and killing police and military (and gods know who else)? What do you think THAT will do for the perception of illegal immigrants in the US? Think this is going to make everyone have warm and fuzzy thoughts about them?? :smack:
Well, there isn’t really any doubt you are wrong, and on a lot of different levels. The real question is, why would you even think this might be a good idea? Who do you think, on any political side, would support such crazy crap?
There seems to be a widespread misconception that taking the Second Amendment literally would mean that any minority (down to a population of one) could use armed force to demand anything they want. This completely ignores the counter-balance of everyone else who is armed. Guns allow a hopelessly outnumbered minority to put a higher price on their lives; possibly enough in some circumstances to make the majority reconsider if initiating conflict is worth it. Otherwise it’s simply a way of taking some of the bastards with you as you die.
An armed populace was originally intended to be the popular vote of last resort. Given that police and National Guardsmen represent just the small percentage of citizens who choose to make putting down armed resisters their vocation or hobby, no movement that can’t resist that tiny fraction of the posse comitatus has any hope at all.
That said, I can actually see the validity of every undocumented (“illegal”) immigrant having a handgun. When facing arrest they would have a choice: surrender peacefully, or commit suicide by cop. It would indeed make the Feds reconsider whether it was worth it; or if it escalated to open war the immigrants get killed or taken prisoner. In a purely libertarian sense, the problem gets solved one way or another.
You’re the one calling people illegals. And, at least as far as this thread is convcerned, you’re the one posting nonsense.
Where is this happening? I haven’t heard of any private militias that are arming their members. But even if they are, it doesn’t address the point I made. You proposed having the government provide arms to a private “militia” - which I’m sure is not being done.
Putting that aside, in what way would this proposal produce a militia? Would you be organizing the people that you’ve armed into some kind of paramilitary unit? It’s difficult to see why the government would want to arm a group that you say is intended to fight against that same government.
I’m still trying to figure out who the OP is trying to trigger. Is he trying to upset liberals by throwing around terms like illegals and suggesting we should be creating a Second Amendment militia? Is he trying to upset conservatives by calling for a massive government giveaway program to arm minorities? Is this supposed to be some kind of “modest proposal” to ridicule the other side? If so, what is the other side?
They don’t acknowledge this. They imagine that there are two groups of people living in the country; Real Americans, who the country belongs to and who have rights, and the Others, who don’t belong here and have no rights.
So it’s okay for the government to round up the Others and put them in camps. But that kind of thing would never happen to Real Americans. Unless, of course, the Others take over the country.
This is a warning for personal insults generally, and accusing other posters of lying more specifically. Both of the above two posts are warnable, but I’m feeling generous so I’ll pick the first one, though most of your contributions to this thread are riding the line of appropriateness. It could also be a warning for unhinged hostility, but there isn’t a radio button for that so I’ll have to make do.
If you want to do this impression of a crazy person ranting, the Pit is probably a better option.
