How would the west respond to a plague?

Supposing that a number of people became infected with a highly contagious disease, such as Smallpox, Ebola or Bubonic Plague in a western country (for the sake of an example: the UK).

I can imagine that the UK would isolate the immediate area in which the infection occurred, but, seeing as most diseases have an incubation period of a few days to a few weeks, what other measures would be put in place?

Would curfews be forced onto us? Would the borders be shut? Would trade be cut off? What exactly would the effect be on western civilisation? Stock market crashes? Anarchy?

What if it were the biblical plague of frogs?

Obvious: we’d all croak.

IIRC, the UK actually had a bubonic plague once, and they didn’t do too well with it.

Joking aside, if the UK had an epidemic of a highly contagious disease, you have the advantage (so to speak) of being on an island. For borders to be shut, and trade to be cut off completely, etc. I imagine that the number of people infected would have to be in the hundreds of thousands. However, I Am Not An Epidemiologist.
