If you had to make an alternate universe story where your favorite comic hero dies, what would you write and why?
My example is Wolverine. The story would be the same as Old Man Logan but instead of retiring after killing the X Men he joins the resistance and goes on a killing spree against the villains that have conquered the country. He would die in a fight with Sabretooth and Cyber after stopping the development of a secret weapon meant to conquer the rest of the world.
Fat-shaming drives Little Lotta to go on a diet. The resulting loss of mass disrupts the careful balance between Earth and a small black hole on the opposite side of the sun resulting in gravitational disarray throughout the solar system and extinction of all terrestrial life.
My favorite comic hero is Superman (duh!) so there are already about 50 different death plots that have already been used.
One that I don’t think has been used is for Superman to temporarily lose his powers and spend the time until the effects wear off as 100% Clark. Then Clark gets killed senselessly and as time goes on the world increasingly wonders “where is Superman?”
Superman. Lex Luthor’s latest weapon of doom is a success. The Sun goes supernova. Earth and humanity are wiped out. There is enough “yellow Sun” residual light in the afterglow for Supe to live for a while, but too weak to fly off to another system. Giving the guy enough time to contemplate his remaining life. The Sun fades down towards a white dwarf. Superman fades out with it.
(Hey, at least there won’t be another stupid sequel.)
Superman on a dying Earth, slowly losing his powers as the Sun grows redder. Humanity has long gone, but he has shepherded all their successor species in turn, as well. Cue flashback montage of him fighting racoon-person super villains, teaming up with a caped cockroach-person hero, rescuing octopus-people from a natural disaster, etc Now, as the gentle crab-things who are the last inheritors of Earth prepare their exodus to another star, he’s decided enough’s enough, and is going down with the ship, as it were.
ETA: I see this is a little bit like ftg’s - hadn’t read that one before I posted, though.
Dial H For Hero?
An average kid who has no experience suddenly gets the power of flight (without invulnerability or super-GPS) and smashes into a skyscraper. Also applies to the brilliant reboots in '03 and '12.
SuperF*ckers?
As a dysfunctional, tasteless Justice League they’ll probably end up killing each other (possibly inadvertantly… seriously, these idiots should NOT have super powers)!
Mud Man?
Scoop him up in a jar and toss him in the middle of the ocean.
None of these deaths would be dramatic enough to rate drawing a single issue.
.
Special mention: Squirrel Girl.
If she can take down Galactus, Doom, and all the Marvel heroes, any “Death of Squirrel Girl” is clearly… fictitious.
