How's Heathrow's Terminal 5 doing now?

Someone I know is planning to fly to northern England in July, but based on what she’s heard about the mess at Heathrow’s new T5, she insists that she won’t fly through it. The problem is that very few flights from the DC area to Glasgow, Manchester, or Newcastle don’t go through LHR, and they’re all more expensive than those that do.

But I’m guessing that the airport is working hard to fix all the problems, and that if they aren’t all better now, they will be soon. I see that BA is moving its flights from T4 to T5 in June. So I think that by the time she wants to go, flying into or through LHR shouldn’t be the hassle it’s been since March.

Does anyone have any recent personal experience at T5 or insight into how things are likely to work out with it? Thanks.

From the reports I have seen, all seems to be going OK now at the terminal. As you said, over the next few weeks more flights are being transferred from T4 to T5, thus increasing the workload, but I imagine that should not affect it too much.

I went through T5 a couple weeks ago, it was fine. Our bags were waiting for us by the time we got to baggage claim, which wasn’t too long.
