How's Roger Ebert Doing?

A piece about him is here:

That letter also appears on his website here. His return is great news.

Vince Gallo’s career is never going to be “over” because he operates on the fringes of the art and music scenes. His mainstream career ended a long time ago with Buffalo 66, but he continues to do obscure music and film projects and will do so as long as he lives.

The wife and I loved Buffalo 66. :frowning:

Y’know if this is gonna be about the Vincent Gallo/Brown Bunny stuff, I suggest you all check out Ebert’s book “Your Movie Sucks”. He spends all 28 pages of the introduction writing about this situation. I found it to be pretty interesting. And Roger ends up sounding like a fan of the film. So, read the essay and then use it against him.

I agree, a great reviewer. The star ratings I may totally disagree with, but the content of what he says is almost always trustworthy and reliable, and he trashes crapfests with great panache.

To a speedy recovery!

CNN has an update today. Sounds like it will be quite a while before he can speak, but he intends to resume writing regular reviews at the end of the month.

He gave the film a positive view review, though, after his initial trashing. Three stars, as I remember. Apparently editing worked wonders.

We have The Brown Bunny on DVD and like it. And Man! does Chloe Savigny give some of her, um, best work.

A nice piece by Roger about his illness, his weight, and his relationship with Siskel.

Jesus, what an insensitve hate-filled threadshit that is. And you started this thread!

I think the mods need to offer a refresher course on what “threadshit” means.

I assure you I meant the comment in jest and would not have written it had Ford not been the very picture of good health. For some reason, I’ve always been struck by the fact that Ford and Ebert were both born in Illinois less than a month apart. I know Ebert has made reference to that at least a couple of times, and so maybe I’ve been thinking of an “evil twin” sort of thing since the onset of Ebert’s health problems.

I think some people may be a tad oversensitive, but still I apologize if that rubbed anyone the wrong way. (I’ve definitely learned my lesson. Next time, I’ll pick Mac Davis :D. I’m just glad I didn’t say Paul McCartney, who was born the same day as Ebert.)

Roger has found a new voice, so to speak, in his journal that was linked to earlier in the thread. (Roger’s Journal)

He is quite the blogger nowadays, and he interacts regularly with people who comment and ask questions about his entries. He has a very loyal, respectful audience who aren’t afraid to take him to task when they think he screws up.

On the off chance that Ebert is reading this thread: That was me and the wife who sent you the postcard of Bangkok’s Vimanmek Teak Mansion. Back in the 1990s I think that was.

I contribute to that blog and he has written to me (responded to me) several times. He’s a great guy. I enjoy his blog very much (and I’m not a diehard film fan!).

He came out with this on Wednesday. I link to it because it not only is good, but also has a short Bangkok story.
