[quote=Clothahump}Houston, TX - Otto’s. BBQ heaven on earth.[/quote]
I’m glad you said that. It seems to be politically incorrect to like Ottos (particularly since G.H.W. Bush does), and all the cogniscenti go for Goode Co. But Otto’s is a hell of a lot better, for my money.
Jim Goode’s a pretty cool guy, though. Old school Texan.
It’s sounds like you know the greatness that is Kreuz Market, Ichbin Dubist. And the pain you’re carrying is shared by a select blessed few.
To help ease the pain, you can order from them and have it delivered to you. I did this around Christmas time and let’s just say, it was a very happy holidays.
Their website is down but you can call them - (512) 398-2361. They actually suggested calling instead of ordering online, just so they would get your order and info correct. It wasn’t super cheap but it was well worth it.
They even added ham and chicken (I think) to their menu.
But the pork chops… those delicious, heavenly pork chops…
I’ve never heard of Big Art’s…where is it? I’ll have to check it out. What’s better there, the pork or the ribs?
I happen to like Montgomery Inn…it’s very good, although admittedly not the best in town. If you do come to Cincinnati, you’ll definitely want to eat there, though…at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse downtown. Gets some ribs, with extra sauce (heated!), and have some Graeter’s Ice Cream for dessert (another Cincinnati staple food). It’s right on the river, and you’ll have a great view. Then you can stroll through sawyer point after dinner. You’ll have a great time!
Another great Cincinnati BBQ place is Burbank’s BBQ…there’s one on Sharon Rd off of I-75. I highly recommend both the ribs and pulled pork sandwiches, mixed with all three sauces. If you like it spicy, there is also a 911 screamer sauce. Not sure if they still sell that sauce though–rumor is that someone spontaneously combusted after eating the sauce.
I can also backup the others on their recommendation of Sonny’s BBQ…it’s a southern chain, so there aren’t any near Cincinnati. When we drive to Florida I always try to time it so we hit exit 29 on I-75 in Kentucky right at lunchtime, for a little Sonny’s action
There’s another chain starting to spread in Cincinnati…two restaurants that I know of in the area. It’s called “Smokey Bones”. Haven’t been there yet, though.
If you hit Cincinnati and need some company for dinner, send me an email…
