I’ve got a wierd problem. We have an iPAQ assigned to my helicopter, for calculating weight and balance for our various fuel loads and patient weights. Someone let the batteries run down, and so I had to do a reboot with the stylus in the little hole at the side, then I could get it to recharge.
But in so doing, apparently the spreadsheet has lost the ability to see drop-down cells. I’ve tried reloading it from another machine. The spreadsheet works on the other machine, but gives nothing but N/A! in the cells where we used to see answers. I’m sure it’s because the cells that used to have pull-down selections don’t work any more.
I’ve gone online to research this for Excel Mobile and all I can get is lots of sites telling me that Excel Mobile does not do Data Validation. Well, that’s stupid - because it would do it yesterday.
I don’t know if you’ll get an answer for this.
However, if someone who can answer you comes along, I suggest you share with the Dope the version number of the application you’re having problems with.
The revision of the OS on your PDA might also be helpful.
There are hard reset and soft reset options for most PDAs. One is akin to memory flush the other actually fully resets the machine and you have to reinitialize time date etc. Not sure which one you did. Assuming you are using some sort of program module it might be best to do a full hard reset.
I bet what happened is you did a full reset. That was a mistake.
Which deleted some add-on module for Excel which powers the dropdowns & data validation. So when you copied the spreadsheet itself from another IPAQ you didn’t get the prereq’s.
My advice is to look through the equivalent of add/remove programs and compare the two devices. Also poke around in the Excel menus for anything about add-ons.
One of those two places will tell you at least the name of what you’re missing. Now finding exactly what file you need to download / install may be another voyage of discovery across the internet. Sadly, this stuff gets so obsolete so quickly you may have a hard time finding it.
Hint: If you do get it working again, save the necessary files on a real PC along with notes on how to refresh the app if necessary. Somebody else will hard-reset one of your devices again.
