Would your reaction be different if he was being kicked out of school because he was Christian? Atheist? Because he ate meat? Because he yodeled?
Different situations will have different reactions! Amazing!

Obtuse only if you don’t live in North America. School bullying is the the cause celebre right now. Asking for us to start focusing on it is to ignore how incredibly highlighted it is already.
It also isn’t any of the school’s business if he’s under 18. That’s what parents are for. Schools need to stop thinking they have any say in what happens to anyone during non-school hours on non -school property. The school is a place to go for your classes, it is not a parent or guardian.
A place of work, especially one that involves interaction and good relations with the public, needs a much higher standard of behaviour than a school. Employees also have a completely different relationship with their employers than students have with school staff.
It’s an increasingly unpopular stance, but I agree. Not only is it not the place of a school to provide a bully free environment, it’s impossible. Bullying has been around since the dawn of time and will continue until all humans are dead (Ok, maybe all but one. It’s difficult to bully oneself).
Back in the day, schools handled/escalated most cases of bullying like this:
Notice, if the bully did not straighten up after a couple of warnings/punishments, the school handed the matter over to the parents to be resolved. Parents (or guardians) were expected to control their own kids. The job of a school is to educate, period. Having schools take on responsibilities traditionally assigned to parents will more often than not result in an institution that does neither well.
Rant over.
Which of his classmates outed himself as a watcher of gay porn?
I guess SeanCody.com is very popular with the kids who are too self-hating and afraid to admit to being gay, or at least excited by gay images. Sadder and sadder.
Going out on a limb here but, a gay student?
SeanCody is popular with everyone who is into that sort of athletic guy next door look. It’s one of the most popular gay porn sites.
I believe in some states at least teachers are mandatory reporters. If he were making porn and is under the age of consent, then it is a matter of statutory rape, not freedom of speech.

Probably none of them. Someone finds it, sets up a free email address or a fake facebook page and bulk-messages a bunch of people in the school. And it spreads like wildfire.
Sure. But you don’t get kicked out of school if you’re a victim.
The story in the OP certainly makes it appear that you might.
If the story is true and complete as presented, which we don’t know.

Of course homophobic bullying should be punished, and of course it’s the school overseers’ responsibility to advise a student that a career/hobby of porn is inherently problematic , I’d think.
If that was the case the suspension would never have made the news or pinged the ire of the internet outrage machine.
I hate to say it, but the kid asked for this by agreeing to star in a gay porn as an 18-year-old still in high school. He shouldn’t be suspended, but he can’t claim to not have suspected this would happen. Over-reaction by the principal.
Probably the only reason he’s back in school is because of the blizzard of legal papers with long rows of zeros after the dollar sign and first three numbers.
“He was asking for it on account of being black”. Before you say that gay porn is different, keep in mind that it probably pays better than any other job the kid can get part time at his age. And, his family needs the money .
So would being a male escort which is legal in some areas. Being a hard core porn actor is not the same as being black or gay. There’s a level of common sense required in life and for this kid to decide that hardcore porn as a side job and being a high school student went together like peanut butter and chocolate was an extraordinarily stupid thing to do. He’s forcing the principal to react to a situation his idiotic decision has created. The fact he has right to do it doesn’t mean it wasn’t a monumentally stupid decision.
To the point where they are willing to have their children prostitute themselves? No family needs money that much.

Please don’t equate an 18 year old adult choosing freely to do pornography to earn money he can share with his family to prostitution.
Because parents sending their kids into virtual prostitution is a real thing, and it’s horrible and shouldn’t be compared to what this guy did.
It is different. The kid chose to star in a gay porn as an 18 year-old still in high school.
Being black is not a choice.
