HTML generator for non-savvy client

I’ve been called out of retirement to build a website for a friend-of-a-friend.

I use DreamWeaver 2004. My comfort zone includes modest CSS (typeface styles, no underline), and maybe a roll-over button. Nuthin’ fancy.

  1. I want the client to make his own changes to the calendar page, and to be able to construct articles on my templates and uplink them to the webhost. Cheap is good, free is better, but idiot-proof trumps all. What program(s) do you real webmasters recommend?

  2. Over the horizon, he wants to post music files, (songs or samples thereof, provided by pro musicians). How difficult is this?

Try and find a copy of (Macromedia now Adobe) Contribute 2.

Build your site using Dreamweaver templates. You then use Dreamweaver to administer Contribute. You client using Dreamweaver is able to create new pages and post/edit content only with areas you previously designed in DW.

Ideally, if your webhost has ASP/PHP/whatever and MySql, you can use a CMS to build the site and your client merely uses a web interface to update content.
