Humans of New York - the story of Tanqueray

Has anyone been following the story of Tanqueray the (ex)stripper in Humans of New York*? It’s a fascinating story from someone who knows how to tell a good one. She was featured in one of HONY’s standard single-post “person on the street” stories last year (actually, I think she was in two) and was quite popular. The HONY creator met with her for several more interviews, and that resulted in a 32-part story they are publishing all this week. I’m interested if anyone else is enjoying her story as much as I am.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a good way to link to a sequential view of the story, so you’ll have to work a little bit. Here’s the introduction to the story: https://www.humansofnewyork.com/post/630135405732347900/many-of-you-will-remember-this-young-lady

Here’s the first installment: https://www.humansofnewyork.com/post/630141247251726300/132-tanqueray-tanqueray-tanqueray-when-this

For the rest, go to the home page and scroll down for the next item (helpfully labeled n/32). You can also view them in Facebook (search for Humans of New York).

*HONY is Brandon Stanton, a photographer from MYC. He started taking photos of people and posting them with a brief interview snippet, and became hugely popular. You can get lost for hours reading them.

Yes, I’ve been following it. I find it riveting.

Just got done reading. That really is fascinating.

This weekend’s installments were more of the same great stuff. Hot dogs? A snake? Chocolate milk? The stories and character arc are better than any movie I’ve seen in the last several years. I’d guess there’s a bidding war right now to get the rights.

In case you missed it, there was an update today (post 33/32) about her reconnecting with her (somewhat) estranged son. It’s pretty heartwarming - I think it’s the first picture of Stephanie where she’s truly smiling.

I read it each day and made a contribution. Reinforced in a small way my faith in humanity.
