Jesus Christ. At first, I thought this was some uber-serial killer out in the West Virginia woods. As it turns out, some pet cremation service has been dumping carcasses (a la Noble, Georgia) instead of burning them.
This is maybe 10 years ago. Dogs where disapearing from rural farms, I know people that lost dogs at the time. A woody area about a block from my home on the other side of a hill, was found to have many dog remains. Etheir teens or imagrants where doing some sacrifices. The dogs stopped disapearing after the find.
A bit later I found two dead dog bodies, that someone had beat nasty before shooting them dead. The small dog was left on it’s stuffed bed, and a few doggy items thrown on the larger. They removed all tags, but left the collars. I filmed the dogs and the area and stowed away the tape incase this happened again. They had been dumped in the public hunting woods in spring. I’m thinking it was a pissed off guy, that wanted the family dogs dead.
In my area, dogs dissapear all the time, stolen by dog-fighting rings. They usually steal the bigger types of dogs, but occasionally, they steal little dogs, apparently for the amusement factor of seeing a chihuahua up against a dane.
Every now and then, they’ll find a dump pile around here. It’s so common, it doesn’t even make the papers.
Trust me, when I put my dogs out in the yard, I watch them like a hawk. The thieves are so bold, they will steal them from enclosed porches and kennels. (I know some people who leave their dogs in outside kennels during the day who secure the doors with padlocks.)
