Hunger games prequel out Tuesday

Haven’t heard much about this but I am not into this kind of book.

Out of curiosity, what’s the purpose of starting a thread to say that you don’t like something that you’re not going to engage with?

Letting other people know it’s coming out. Is that OK? And I might buy a copy for my son.

Of course it’s okay. It was a real question about why you were starting the thread.

It’s out today.

Wow. prequels are a bit difficult, as you have to fall in strict lanes. this book did it well. songbirds and snakes lays the groundwork so well for hunger games. the lanes are as straight as the boulevard the tributes are driven down.
it explains why snow was so unsettled by a girl from district 12 in the 74th games.

I knew that Suzanne Collins was going to write a prequel, set 64 years before the first “Hunger Games” book, but didn’t realize it would be out this soon

or that Coriolanus Snow had been a tribute

It’s currently #1 on Amazon.

Sorry, your spoiler is a bit off.

Well fuck…some additional context might have been good that fucking spoiler…

DO NOT CLICK…this spoiler is for the new books, not the already release ones and it’s a doozy.

I would have thought that it would be taken for granted, that in a thread about a new book, in a post just after the new book is out, that a spoiler would be for the new book.

Well, the thread title doesn’t say spoilers. Nor does it mention the new book by name. The forum guidelines do indicate that it’s good form to at least specify the work being spoiled when it’s ambiguous. And that post did not include much of anything to indicate that they had read any part of the book not in the synopsis. Since the thing has been available for less than 12 hours in a post-COVID world one might assume that you’d be safe from massive spoilers in the third post after the release day…

But hey, do what you want. Hopefully no one else get’s kicked in the nuts like I did.

I’m one who will say “thank you” for alerting me to the spoiler. I will look forward to reading this book, and discovering it on my own.

when i posted (6) i had finished reading the book. the spoiler is incorrect as i mentioned in post 8. i didn’t want to say how as i figured on many people haven’t read it.

i liked the book and look forward to discussing it as more people read it.

They are making a movie as well, I think.

Just finished it today, I devoured the book and loved it, but I don’t think she stuck the landing (aka ending). Snow’s change of heart was very sudden and violent and then it ended. I was hoping for more of a slow burn to his horrid personality because he was so innocent and virtuous for 99% of the book…then he just goes crazy in the final 30 pages.

What do we think…did he kill Lucy Gray? Did she set him up?

the movie is out on november 17th. the sets look amazing.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) Special Feature ‘Welcome Back to Panem’ - YouTube

the movie was pretty good. it was nearly three hours, each part was about evenly timed.

as usual the movie condensed things and compressed the time line. didn’t show much of the cruelty or gore of the games.
