Hunter Biden Laptop Question

Some of the Windows ultrabooks from companies like Dell or HP are manufactured similarly.

Ignorance fought!

Geez. I may never get a modern laptop. “You’ll get my 2009 Macbook Pro (RAM & drive replaceable) when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers!”

And just to be pedantic, I would point out that you could desolder even a surface-mount SSD and reinstall it elsewhere, though it would take no small amount of skill and some specialized tools to do it right. I don’t think that repair shop guy would fit the bill.

On modern Apple laptops, the SSD is bound to the T1/T2 chip that cryptographically signs the drive so it can’t be put in another motherboard.

If you have FileVault enabled, the data on that storage is not going to be retrieved once removed…

For what it’s worth, the new Surface Pro 8 has removable storage. It’s a M.2 2230, so upgrading is a pain, but you can remove the drive.

Feeling any different 2 years too late?

Still think the case is closed?

Trump appointed Delaware US Attorney Weiss to investigate Hunter Biden (not an elected official, it should be said). The Biden administration kept him on. The investigation is ongoing, and – apparently – is focused on a possible illegal gun and possible tax issues.

Former US Attorney, Rudy Giuliani, had the laptop contents since at least October 2020, but – as is customary for Giuliani – provided nothing. No evidence of criminal wrongdoing by Joe or Hunter Biden.

And I don’t defend Joe Biden OR Hunter Biden. If there’s credible evidence to indicate that they committed crimes, then – IMHO – they should be investigated.

So far, I’ve seen none.

It’s really exactly like the “stolen election” ruse:

  • Those who have information that implicates Donald Trump, or refutes his claims, have testified under oath.

  • Those who say that they have evidence that he is NOT guilty, or that supports his claims, have refused to testify or respond to subpoenas.

It’s ridiculously obvious.

The case is closed that nothing has been presented or leaked to the public that makes the laptop story interesting or notable. Having laptops and emails is not a story.

Yes. A political witch hunt which will never go anywhere and will do nothing but convince the country of the Right’s unworthiness to lead does not a case make.

The only reason this is back in the news is entirely political:

The GOP is set to take over the House and has announced their intention that it’s payback time, and they will open investigations into anything and everything with the purpose of “getting” Biden.

They’ve made it crystal clear that it’s political payback. The only question is, why don’t you believe the GOP leaders?

Some people are continuing to make the claim (in various forms) that “the Left said there wasn’t a laptop and the existence of a laptop has now been confirmed, therefore everything we claimed about the contents of the laptop is true and the Left is wrong about everything”, which is both based on a false premise (that the primary position was that there was no laptop) and extremely poor logic.

The claim that the laptop contains vast amounts of incriminating evidence about Hunter and Joe Biden remains largely dubious, particularly given this point which bears repeating:

If there was the slightest shred of credible evidence on the laptop that could have been used to smear Joe Biden before the election, Rudy Giuliani would have plastered it everywhere and the New York Post would not have hesitated for a second to print it on the front page for weeks on end. But Rudy released nothing, and the NY Post article that eventually came out was largely disavowed by its own writers. Hardly a smoking gun.

I also agree with this point:

and it looks like there may be something worth investigating Hunter for with regard to gun and tax charges unrelated to the laptop. But at the moment the whole “the laptop is the thing that will totally bring down the Democrats” story looks like just the latest in a long, long series of similar claims (Benghazi, IRS, emails, Obamagate, etc) that stirred up the rubes and then faded into nothingness as the next one came along.

But the rubes will insist that - one day - Lucy won’t pull that football away…

Ten Benghazi hearings. TEN. None of them found any evidence whatsoever of wrongdoing. That didn’t stop the GOP House committees though. They did it again and again and again and again. Why? Entirely for the theatre.

We will see the same thing repeated now. Hearing after hearing after fake investigation after fake investigation. I expect we’ll see "House Laptop Hearing #7 at some point. Just complete and utter bullshit. The GOP know it’s complete bullshit, but the purpose is to keep the base energized and stirred up.

The rubes insist that all of those are valid scandals that the Democrats haven’t been held accountable for. My mother still goes on about Benghazi and the IRS.

And it also serves to discredit legitimate investigations. When it is purely politically motivated, those who see “both sides” as the same will assume that Democratic investigations are politically motivated as well.

Not to build Rudy up any larger than is absolutely necessary, but he doesn’t need any evidence whatsoever to run around from conservative media outlet to conservative media outlet spewing bullshit (and motor oil) out of every orifice in his head.

It’s just that whole “under oath” thing that shuts him up (and costs him his license to practice law).

Why? The Bengazi investigation led to the email server investigation which led to Comey’s turd a week before the election, which may have been the deciding factor. There was nothing to any of it, but it may well have led to Trump’s presidency.

Throw everything at the wall, use a smoke machine, and some voters will think, well, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

As the thread was bumped by a Trock after 8 months and we have a fresh thread for this topic. I’m closing this and dealing with the Trock.
