good timing!
I’m in DC. I didn’t notice the winds until 11:00 or so last night. I was a bit worried about the peach tree in the back as I heard it’s branches scraping against the house. Otherwise, the storm was almost a non-event. We didn’t lose power, we didn’t lose our internet connection, and we didn’t really lose our DirecTV connection which is unusual because it usually goes out during a heavy rain. I turned it on last night specifically to check if it was working and it was. I’m glad to say it was such a non-event for us.
I’m planning on going out for lunch later on and will see how the neighborhood is. I suspect that quite a few places in the suburbs served by Pepco will be without power. I’m lucky that our power lines are buried so we don’t lose power every thunderstorm we get like a lot of people in the area.
This. Total non-event in DC - we had a more impressive thunderstorm a week or so ago.
OK, I voted late but I was only mildly concerned, really not to worried about it. The thing turned out to be a bust, where I live, except the winds were kind of cool. My best wishes to everyone who has to deal with power outages, downed trees, etc.
Bit of a bust here, although most of Philly wasn’t as fortunate. There is a lot of flooding near the rivers. Last night got a bit hairy as the news warned us about tornadoes coming this way.
The power never went out here. Lots of rain all yesterday and last night, and some high gusts of wind. I haven’t been out of the house yet, but I don’t see any trees or large branches down along the street or by the neighbors’ houses. My car remains uncrushed.
I’m in southern NH (Manchester) and woke to rain hitting me while I slept on my couch (suffering TMD and can sleep better on my couch).
I lost power for maybe an hour or so. Instead of sitting home, I decided to go for a ride and noted some streets really clean, while others were strewn with branches.
It’s pretty much now just wind with no rain.
Well, except for the half a million people without power, but yeah, I was expecting far worse. I think our lights flickered off for maybe a second.
Of course, I haven’t looked outside my immediate neighborhood and I sure as heck haven’t tried driving. There are some roads closed for flooding and I assume a lot of traffic lights are dark, which tends to create chaos, since no one here can use a four-way stop under normal circumstances. Hopefully the cops will be out tomorrow.
I have no idea how badly our house/neighborhood in Queens got hit, but here at my bungalow in the Catskills, a tree fell down, missing the bungalow by inches. It took our power line down with it. (I’m back up with power now.)
Agreed. My Virginia Beach and eastern NC relatives were not impressed either.
I felt good about being unscathed, and even annoyed at the hype; but now I feel bad for folks in VT and elsewhere experiencing major flooding.
