All good in the Cups household. Once the eye came through we holed up in the bathroom and came out a little while later, still with power.
Just heard our old city (Mount Dora) is 100% without power…which is crazy.

Ten am in Statesboro. Feels like the big wind has arrived, tree down in front of the neighbors’ house, but it missed their roof. Still have power, phone, and internet, as does my mom. Brother and SIL lost electricity an hour ago, but so far, things are pretty good here.
Do you have the Statesboro blues??? :smack:
Kinda the grays today!
Got damage report from our condo in Broward. The complex has some landscaping damage, some carport roof peeled off, and that’s it. Probably some minor rain water intrusion in some units, but nothing obviously major. We’re on the water, but the surge was a non-event.
Condo complex next door never lost power. Ours has been out 24 hours now. Per FPL it’s a small local outage. Which is code for “last in line for restoration.” Fortunately we have pals in that other complex so once I can get back I’ll be in good shape even w/o electricity at home.
Then it’s time to help all the neighbors as needed.
Schools are closed in our part of metro Atlanta.
They even closed our pool today. Nertz. So we went to the gym. Hardly any rain while out and at times windless. Yesterday was quite breezy and some modest steady rain during the night.
The breeziness is back. :o
East Orlando, all good here. Never lost power. Plenty of water and food.
All is basically fine here in West Savannah area, some wind and rain. I have power, we are having tornado watches and warnings in place all day.
Sister out on Wilmington Island has lost power and trees are down. We have some roads and bridges closed.
Have an Aunt in Oviedo, FL who got water in her house, no power, brand new hardwood floors ruined. Other family in Jupiter, FL on one of the canals, and they are unscathed. They are busy cleaning out their pool today.
We are safe and sound. Didn’t even lose power.
Is there any news of Tavernier, Florida?
Storm surge plus high tides looking dire on Savannah’‘s eastern islands, downtown. Hope your sister stocked up at the Pubic Sto’, Red!
Big rain at my house right now, but it’s falling mostly vertical now. Still have power, coffee, tea, and a big pot of red beans and rice.
The Boy is fine. As of 2 hours ago, he and the roommates were alternating coffee and hunch punch, to wash down a pancake breakfast. At least they were eating something.
My parents are still fine - plenty of coffee, and all of my damned Oreos! (I took about 75% of my supplies to the farm Saturday. Decided not to vamoose yesterday. There better be some Oreos left when I get out there!)
In other news, the in-laws, in Pierce County, Georgia, are in the dark. Lots,of flooding and tree damage in their area, but they’re OK. Ridiculous cousin evacuated from Lake Okeechobee, but he’s trying to drive home today. That should work well…
cnn’s bill weir is on key largo. he said the ocean side took a hard hit. mobile home lived up to their name. trees down, power out. people are moving around checking on boats and homes. he did not mention any injuries or fatalities.
make that 2 new words!
Thanks!
She did, and can luckily cook and take showers with no power since she has gas stove & hot water heater. Many of her Wilmington Park roads are “ponded”.
Using my new fancy word, too!
Yeah, looks like the Islands and Savannah downtown has lots of ponding, too! maybe once the tide goes out it will recede.
I can’t believe you have a relative who is trying to drive back to Florida today! That sounds like a fool’s errand.
My other sister over in Columbus, GA reported that the roof blew off the Circle K by her house. She has no power right now either.
Hope you get those Oreos!
lots of video finally showed up from Key West for example
On Skidaway we got a foot or two more than with Matthew. We got marsh water in our pool and all around our house, but none inside. Many fewer trees down than Matthew. The latter caused about 10,000, but with Irma there are just sporadic trees down here and there.
LOL, misspelling, duh. :smack:
Glad the house stayed dry!
The tree situation was also miles better today than during Matthew here. Of course, that’s partly because so many vulnerable trees went down last October, but the power companies have been noticeably aggressive about maintenance around their lines this summer.
Hopefully, the latter means that folks will get electricity back sooner this time. (Not a complaint - line crews did amazing work after Matthew. But an awful lot of time was spent cutting through fallen trees, just to get to power poles, and then replacing poles that had been snapped by those trees.) We drove out to check on my folks this evening, and I didn’t see any broken poles, and almost no downed trees on the 15 mile route. It was an astonishing difference.
The Zephyrhillian contingent have reported in as “fine” but we haven’t had a chance to get details yet.
