Hydrocele - Experiences?

So I was probably using poetic license there. I’d say it is somewhere between a small-medium lemon and a baseball. As already commented, it isn’t like it is rigid and perfectly round. I am starting to notice it though in certain pairs of blue jeans that may have slightly less room in the crotch.

Hydrocele Plugs?

Don’t worry – everyone here has them.

Instead of getting it corrected, you could just change your name to Nemo.

I can see why you’re concerned. Is the other one is large enough to be considered normal?

I had the same procedure about 15 years ago. Outpatient surgery, no particular problems since then other than the testicle on that side can be sensitive to certain intimate activities, easily avoided.

Hi I just had the operation 16 days ago. It went fine I only used painkillers 1st day after that it was sore but not to bad. They say don’t do anything like lifting or running for 2 to 3 weeks. After 11 days the wound looked pretty good so I thought I would try a real slow easy short easy jog. I got about 3/4 around first lap on a track and I felt something really warm running down my leg. My first thought was I was somehow peeing myself. I looked down and saw large amount of blood filling my shorts and running down my leg. It really shocked me I grabbed my scrotum and applied a lot of pressure.I didn’t know if I could get it to stop.I called a guy over to help me and and called 911 ambulance came and took me to hospital . I was having huge anxiety and thought the wound open up or ripped somehow and was bleeding badly.By the time I got to hospital it was not bleeding much. I waited about 1 hour and the Doc came in didn’t say much gave me 4 new stitches and said im ok to go home .Next four days where very stressful as I thought maybe it might rip open again and I would have to call 911. On 5th day I finally got in to see the surgeon and he said it was just old blood in the scrotum that was left over that leaked or was pushed out no worries lol.I was kind of pissed off that they would not mention this when I was sent home on my first day, I could of saved a lot of anxiety for me . At the time I though I could bleed out if I don’t get this stopped! I just wanted to post this in case it happens to anyone else . MM

This reads like we finally found the male equivalent of menstruation.
I am SO glad this didn’t happen in my case.

I had one removed when I was a young teen. Never had any complications.

It’s not the testicle that’s enlarged, it’s the sac next to the testicle.

hydrocele

I’m having surgery for this unfortunate malady on tuesday 9/10. Left side swelled to the size of a balled fist if you must know.

I’ll report back to this thread with results in case any of my future brothers find themselves doing a search.

Best of luck Quintas. I did have the surgery to repair it. The post-op recovery sucked pretty bad for about 10 days or so. Since the surgery and post-op care I’ve had no issues at all and everything is nice and symmetrical.

I was diagnosed with a congenital communicating hydrocele years ago when I went in for my NROTC physical back in high school. Basically, fluid moved back and forth between my abdomen and a testicle such that when I stood up, the size of one testicle increased (and reduced when I laid down horizontally).

If I wanted to go into the military, I had to have it corrected, so I had surgery in a Naval Hospital (because I was also a military dependent at the time). I remember the recovery was in a big open ward with several dozen patients. I’ve had no aftereffects in the decades since, other than the fact that a small portion of one of the dissolving stitches never quite dissolved completely. I keep meaning to go in to have it looked at by a surgeon, but it’s never been a big enough deal for me to take the time to do this.

Thanks. Surgery was yesterday a.m. Went well. Today is really not so bad. Things are mildly swollen but I can tell already that the hydrocele has been removed and im gonna be back to normal before long. I have to take it verrrry slow sitting down or getting onto the bed, but I expected much worse.

This experience was one of great concern since I didn’t know if this condition would go away, or when. I got hit hard from behind oddly from a phone, on one of those old fashioned cords. Unfortunately, my legs were spread apart far enough, and I was also wearing sweat pants, that the area that got hit was the testicles. It didn’t actually hurt at the time, but alarmed me. It was not like getting kicked or hit from the front with a ball.

Anyways… within the next day, the right side was like baseball perhaps. I did much searching online, and discovered that this was called a Hydrocele.

The main info. I want to share is what happened for my recovery. First off, I prayed, and prayed hard.

I ended up putting together a few supplements as a regimen
Christopher’s Formula Glandular System, 100 Count (I took this daily)
and
Drain Dampness (Wu Ling San) (I also took this daily)

AND

I took a slow two mile walk, with one mile being uphill. For some reason, I feel this had a major impact on my recovery… and the two supplements mentioned taken together. Within about one month I had what I considered to be a miraculous recovery, especially about reading about the condition. I have been completely healed since. That was about 1.5 years ago.

Note: I also want to mention, it might be unwise to end sexual activity due to this. Perhaps this also has to do with healing properly. Even if you don’t feel like it, keep sexual activity healthy and as normal as possible.

I hope this helps someone out there. God bless you.

(Age 29) I just had a right hydrocele removed on 5/28. Sent me home gauzed and slung in a jockstrap thing. No severe pain yet. On a scale of 10, maybe a 3 when it does hit at times. Walking like a cowboy, otherwise bed most of the time so far. They told me that I could shower 24-48 hrs after the surgery.

I haven’t took the strap off yet to examine. Im afraid too but will have to in order to shower. I called and they told me to put the strap back on after shower. Idk. I’m thinking maybe just using wipes to clean myself, and that area carefully over the next week. My follow-up with my urologist is the 17th. So I’m hoping for good result.

I had an hydrocele removed on 5/8 and let me tell you the experience has been nothing like I’ve read on other forums or this one! Before the surgery, the doctor said he would come in and talk to me post surgery but he never did. I felt like I was rushed to hurry up and leave. I did notice there were several people waiting to see a doctor when I arrived so I don’t know if they were pushed for time or what. Anyway, so my son drove me home and the whole time I felt like something was pushing on my testicles and my penis trying to shove them up into my stomach the whole trip home. Before we got home we stopped and dropped off the prescription and picked up the hydrocodone medicine then got home. I went to the bathroom to see that they had some kind of makeshift jockstrap that was absolutely too small for me. I proceeded to cut it off and I was not aware that I had a drain tube. They did not tell me that I would need to have tons of gauze and gauze pads post surgery so after I cut the jockstrap off I had to send my son to the drugstore to buy as much as he could. For five days I labored in bed and could not hardly even walk to the bathroom. I had my follow up post surgery visit five days after the surgery and I told the doctor that I had lots of drainage and he looked surprised but took the tube out anyway and two days later I started running fever. They did not give me an anabiotic which I thought was strange. I forgot to mention that once I got home after the surgery I called back down there to ask should I had gotten an anabiotic and they said everything was OK because they put anabiotic(s) in my IV. It is now May 30 and every day or so I’ll run fever and the swelling goes up and then I have days where I can walk somewhat normal with very minimal pain so every day is a crapshoot. I’ve called my doctors office five different times and all I get is an answering machine that says go to the ER if it’s an emergency but I don’t feel it’s necessary. Their answering machine says they were not responding to messages due to patient/client policies. I am off this Monday so I will just drive down there because they are not close enough for me to have already done that so I will have to make a special trip. I have read on numerous boards were people say after a day or so they are almost back to normal so that leads me to believe that it is dependent on how physical or rough or whatever word you want to choose your doctor is while performing the surgery. Apparently mine used to be a sumo wrestler and he went in there and grabbed and yanked or twisted like a pretzel. Now I am left with the consequences. I am really starting to doubt my decision to have the surgery and if I ever have another one I will just go every few months to get it drained and say that’s good enough. I honestly hope no one else has to go through this the way I have. It has been a very unpleasant experience to say the least.

I’m 9 days post op, seems like swelling is still about same. Sometimes it feels like hydrocele is still there so idk.

My doc never put a drain tube during the op, is that normal? I seen that a lot of folks that have it done also have the tube that gets removed later. I just don’t want to get another op done if possible.
