You know, it’s a shame about that, because selling counterfeit merchandise is a federal crime, a felony. Buying more than 1 is also a felony, because it is considered ‘buying with intent to sell’.
I’m surprised the companies who own the patents and copyrights etc haven’t stomped this thing out of existence.
I’m looking for something that is a little more professional than that. Nine inches square is a good neighborhood. I’m not very picky, except that I would like it to be leather, faux leather, or canvas.
I can take a picture of the purse I have at work tomorrow and email it to you if your email is listed. The handles don’t stand up by themselves, though. They’re leather straps. Tan canvas with leather accents, a cell phone pocket in front, 10 inches wide, nine inches tall, three inches deep. There’s a five by five inche pocket with a flap in front, as well as a zippered compartment. The inside has a zippered compartment, credit card slots, a pen holding flap, and another cell phone type pocket. There’s another zippered compartment in the back.
They don’t stomp it out of existance because the companies are selling the 2nd run fabric/merch out the back door for a fair profit. Better to sell 1000 purses at $50 than 10 at $500. This isn’t a secret, the whole Rosemont convention center is filled with stuff like this, so either the feds don’t care, or they’re not ‘exactly’ violating the rules.
Regarding the ‘buying with intent to sell’ thing; if I’m not mistaken, that means several of the same type and model of items, instead of 3-4 different things from the same maker.
GIve it up girls, get pockets like the boys, I haven’t carried a “purse” in 30 years. I had a kind of a wallet for about 5 years and then decided I didn’t need that either. I keep my money in one pocket and my id’s and cards in the other.
I have a great winter time purse. It’s just the right size with pockets, in all the right places, and good quality leather. It’s also an ugly shade of teal. Since my funds are limited, I have to get my purses and everything else on clearance. So, I have weird colors that nobody wants.
Teal isn’t very summery. So for Summer, I splurged and paid full price for something I swore I’d never get, even if it were free. A BRIGHT PINK purse! I wear alot of pink so I thought it was a good idea at the time. I’m not a “look at me”, type of girl. I’m more of a “just ignore me, what the hell are you staring at” type of girl. My pink purse draws a lot of attention.
Mithril - how about this bag - it’s from a Canadian company (Mountain Equipment Co-Op - it has fabulous outdoor gear), and they ship to the States. It doesn’t give the exact dimensions of the bag (it says the capacity is 6 litres), but I used to have one and it would hold a trade paperback book easily, and it would hold a medium notebook (about 8 or 9 inches tall). There’s one main compartment that can fit a surprising amount of stuff, a smaller compartment on the front, a sunglasses pouch, and a flat zippered compartment inside the “lid” flap. It costs $19 Canadian, but I’m not sure about shipping.
Here’s a link to their selection of shoulder bags (various types of messenger bags).
I’ve been a devotee of Nine West for years, but lately even their stuff has been horrible. Too many pockets and weird shapes. I did find a Rampage bag on clearance for seven dollars and change, and the only problem I have with it is that it’s a bit flat. Can’t stuff all my papers in it, so I actually had to clean out my other purse before I started using it. This purse is great otherwise, and it’s red and satiny. I get many compliments on it.
Pockets are handy, but I hate carrying around all my shit in mine. I like my carrier bag. It holds a surprising amount of stuff for its size, and it is festooned with my complete collection of sassy buttons (samples include I’M A SAUCY LITTLE MONKEY BOY and JESUS LOVES YOU [sub]IN THOSE PANTS[/sub]).
For more nighttime occasions I have a – well, I just call it my purse but people have this odd habit of going OMG YOU’RE A GUY YOU CAN’T HAVE A PURSE IT’S A BAG, because “bag” is so butch… anyway, it’s small and it holds my wallet and cellphone, so it’s all good.
It’s true; sometimes you can’t cram all your stuff in your pockets. I love purses yet hate to carry them so I rarely carry mine. Sometimes you need one though. One of my exes still carries all his stuff around in a backpack for that reason. He said the amount of things he needed overflowed his pockets long ago. Having seen him unload the thing a few times, I believe it.
Back when I had a real job, I once sold a little Coach bag to an elderly gentleman. He was really embarrassed to ask for such a thing. It’s not as if I was going to tell anyone. “Hey! This old dude just bought a purse! For himself!”
Well, I guess I told now. Oh, well, it’s been seven years.
Yeah, that’s totally legal. The purse I linked to above is a knock-off of a Hermes bag but it’s not marketed as a fake and doesn’t have Hermes stamped all over it so it’s legit. (and I’d love a real one but they run $20,000  so I’ll just settle for my Hong Kong knock-off)
I have a billfold-sized small handbag with a decent strap from them that I love. I also have a larger bucket-type bag with straps just long enough to fit over my should comfortably from them, too.
www.hobointernational.com/ has a larger selection but doesn’t really seem to support linking to specific images
The quality of their leather is really good. I know the two pieces I’ve got from them will last me years.
Oh, thank you, thank you all for giving me a reason to look at purses today. Since I don’t actually need one, it’s very enjoyable. If I needed one, I’d be all crabby about how none of them are just right.
I found this today in a little hole-in-the-wall thrift store today, and it’s yours if you want it. The larger part of the bag is black pebble-grain genuine leather; the smaller pocket (which is not a cell phone pocket, but might serve) is smooth leather. The flat nylon strap adjusts from 30" - 58". The dimensions are 11" high X 9". It’s not exactly a courier bag, if you mean the kind with a flap, but I only paid $1 for it. It’s from Pellé Studio, which looks like it’s a sub of Wilson Leather.
