My father’s nearly 80. He caught a late night (arriving past midnight) train to return home. He fell asleep on the train and missed his stop, but woke in time for the next stop. At the next stop he got out and slipped and knocked himself out on the platform. Nobody noticed - or if they did, didn’t bother - and the station was unattended. He severely grazed his face. Fortunately the grazing by his eye didn’t break - that can be very bloody. When he came to, he decided to walk home - only a few miles, but he is nearly 80. There were no taxis and he didn’t have the means to call one.
Fortunately it was a warm night, otherwise he’d be dead of exposure, either from when he knocked himself out or during the walk home.
I’m much relieved that he got home safely. He now looks like he’s gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson.
Man! Was he lucky! Does he have a cell phone? If not, you might want to get him one. It wouldn’t have helped while he was knocked out, but he could have called the police or something for a ride home.
My goodness! I’m glad he’s ok. Maybe this is the thing that will remind him to keep his mobile charged up. Close calls seem to have that effect on people.
I know that must have been frightening for all concerned.
Consider letting it serve as a reminder to take some time to really look at him, treasure him, talk to him, let him know all the things that you will want him to know.
That might in fact be what he has been doing. Perhaps his late night meanders are just a cover up for him fulfilling his long-held dream of being a prize fighter. He just tells you and his mum that he tripped on the platform to stop you worrying and finding out his secret life. He even makes sure his battery is flat so you can’t find him while he’s doing the boof and biff stuff in the ring.
Very glad to hear he is ok though, and that this was just a scare and nothing more serious.
But let me get this straight (and please realise I mean this in the nicest posible way)… your eighty year old father was out somewhere that required him to be out past midnight, fell, knocked himself out, then GOT UP AND WALKED HOME “A FEW” MILES.
Jesus Christ, man- your dad’s gonna outlive all of us! Can we bottle his blood or something?
