I ALMOST Signed Up With Manilla.....

… but then cancelled out at the last, when they wanted me to include my credit card/banking information in the grouping of all my bills and stuff.

After reading about phishing, hacking, cracking, raping, pillaging and burning all over the net, I decided I didn’t want to make it THAT easy for someone to get at my money or info.

Am I worrying needlessly and are any of y’all doing this?

Thanks

Q

Isn’t that he company that puts out Fyrefawks?

what’s to worry?

but seriously, what is Manilla?

I missed the edit window.

Manilla looks like it would be no less secure than things like PayPal and the like.

I assume you need to link to CC accounts to pay bills from?

Hi Bill!

I use Manilla and love it. For those that don’t know, it is a web site that consolidates all of your bills on one page, tells you your balances, saves your statements, and lets you know when things are due. I have almost all of my bills set up as paid electronically automatically and paper statements stopped so I literally never have to pay bills or write a check anymore. I just look at Manila every couple of weeks to make sure things are working right and use the link for things like bank accounts to make sure I didn’t get charged for something I shouldn’t.

I don’t see it as a security risk or at least no more than anything else. Manilla was developed with security in mind and you can’t run any transactions directly from it. They don’t have your credit card security codes or your PIN. People make a big deal out of electronic identity theft and I am sure it is a huge hassle for those it happens to but it is easier for someone just to take your paper mail or lots of other mundane ways to do the same thing with even less notice.

Is this a site something like Mint.com?

If so, it’s probably OK, though I’d want to do some separate searching to find expert opinions as to how good their security is.

I use Mint, sort of - I gave it a try to see if it would be all that useful. And it is, in that I can do a quick check of bank account balances from my handheld (I still do most of my recordkeeping in desktop Quicken).
