Give me one good reason not to get rid of the Japanese Boxwoods in front of my house. Honestly, these things drive me nuts. I hate trimming them, and as I was using Round-Up on the junk around them, I was oh-so-tempted to just keep spraying. No more problems with ivy growing behind them and creating an ant bridge to the house, no more trimming, no more sore back from bending over. I’m going to attend the next anti-bush rally and add my own voice to the crowd: NO MORE SHRUBS!DOWN WITH HEDGES!
You’re clearly not Roger the Shrubber’s sock puppet.
Ya know, I was having the same dilemma this past weekend. I’ve got 4 of 'em under my dining room window and I want to get rid of them. Maybe I’ll transplant them to the corner of the back yard where the dog keeps trying to dig out… Then again, I’m selling this house in a year, so I’ll trim them one last time and let the next owner deal with it. Yeah, that’s the ticket!
You show them!
Go ahead and take them out. You have my permission.
You might want to consider chopping them out – it’ll be much more satisfying.
twickster, gardener extraordinaire
I’m with you, DeadlyAccurate. I feel the same way about the hostas in my yard. These things are ugly, and I just can’t seem to get rid of them; they come back hardier than ever.
If I use Round-Up or something similar, how long until I can plant something NICE in that soil? Or does the poison render the soil unusable at all?
Something nice? You mean, actually add something to the soil instead of just removing it? What a concept.
Anyone want an 85’ poplar tree that sheds?
That’d be a bit more difficult to transplant, I’d wager.
I thought this thread was going to be about, um, shaving.
I’m on board with that - but you would have to say that I have an even greater anti-plant bias. I detest mowing the lawn, weeding the garden and any thing to do with yard-keeping. Down with grass, down with grass!
For a high school English class I wrote a four page persuasive essay about why people should not mow their grass. It was pretty good, too. I think I got an A. But right now I wish it would grow so that other people can mow it and I can smell that wonderful fragrance.
Replace it with knickinick
