i am a lazy typer...

i have been feeling a little out of place here because i notice everyone seems to have perfect type …

i use ellipsis …i know that bothers some people …as i have been told many times …

oh well …i guess some of you won’t mind while others will …

We all don’t really have “perfect type”. We just know how to type like normal people in society. Well, most of us do.

well …there you go …i am not normal …nor would i like to be …

So, you don’t have those moments where you’re somewhere, doing something, and you look around, and no one else is doing that, or they’re all doing something that is the complete opposite, and you go, “Oh, oops!”

If you look around the board, you won’t see anyone else doing what you’re doing. It doesn’t make what you’re doing bad, or wrong, but around here we kind of pride ourselves on using proper spelling, English, and stuff like that there. I wouldn’t suggest that you change- I’m sure you’re a special snowflake with every right to express yourself individualistically. I’m just saying.

I wasn’t even going to say anything about the way that you type, that I noticed right away. But since you brought it up.

Nonsense. You know how to do it, you just choose not to.

Everyone here is their own special little snowflake.

Adhering to generally accepted conventions of grammar, punctuation, capitalization, etc. is fairly expected as part of this board’s culture. Using such doesn’t make you ‘normal’; it makes you part of the community. Not doing so does nothing more than demonstrate rude, disrespectful behavior.

Well, if you were truly lazy you’d use a singl comma instead of most of those ellipses because that’s clearly what you mean.

Using a comma you could have saved yourself typing 9 characters and gotten exactly the same meaning.

If the ellipsis thing is the most interesting thing about you then you should stick with it. Other people choose to stand out by the content of their posts rather than the formatting of their punctuation, but if you’ve got nothing to offer in the former, then the latter might be worth a shot.

i generally say oops …then laugh …and be myself …

i do know how to type properly …i just don’t …

i am sure everyone notices …just like i noticed how proper other posters type …

i have been on several message boards …this one seems so proper …i am not complaining …just making an observation …

Perhaps you would be happier somewhere else, then. It’s not you, it’s us. We can still be friends.

~Olive~,

I use ellipsis when I’m writing, but not so much on this board. I don’t consider it lazy at all, but just a type of voice one uses when writing. Keep on keepin’ on…

I can speak a few words of French. Not very much, but a phrase here, a word there.

But when I visit France, I don’t make any attempt to use that knowledge. That would be “normal”. I mean, have you ever been? Everyone and his Granny speaks French there. It’s not for me: I’m unconventional. So rather than use a few stuttered words of French and copious apologetic hand gestures, I follow my own path, and bellow Scottish-accented English at everyone I meet.

Parisians know me as that cool, eclectic guy who doesn’t follow the herd.

really?? everyone should do the same ?? life would be boring in a community where everyone behaved the same way …

i am happy here …so far you all seem like a nice group of people …from all over …that is what i like …the diversity of people …

It’s not an issue of “falling in line” and being like everyone else. Your posts are hard to read. Since the whole point of posting on a message board is for others to read your posts, you should put some effort into making those posts readable.

If she doesn’t want to, she doesn’t really have to and if that means you can’t read her posts, then that’s a loss she’ll just have to live with. (And if her posts are unreadable to you, then that says more about your reading ability than her writing ability.)

Even if you can’t be bothered to capitalize, what’s the point of using three periods instead of one? That seems to belie your claim that your problem is that you are a “lazy” typer.

FWIW ~Olive~, I reckon you can keep on using ellipses… It’s not like they’re in short supply… unlike apostrophes; with all the confusion around it’s and apple’s for sale, and suchlike these days, the supply of those small curly symbols has fallen to almost dangerous levels.

I believe that in some areas there are volunteer collectors scouring homemade garage sale signs for excess apostrophes that can be recycled!

Don’t you know about the period shortage?
