Cool story, bro.
Eh, I disagree. I was merely posting my response to her posting style. I wasn’t implying, or intending to imply, that that is what she is like. I was simply saying that when you type like THAT, THIS is the response my brain has to it. I never claimed, nor do I believe, that that reaction is an accurate assessment of her character.
But whatever. No big deal.
The more I read it, the more it kind of comes across like a young woman with that exaggerated baby voice, you sometimes encounter.
It’s not a crime, everyone is free to put on any affectation that they wish, lord knows. Yeah, it’s annoying to listen to, but it’s not a hanging offense.
But I never encounter it without wondering what’s going on with this person that they don’t care at all how they come across to others. You could admire their independent nature, of course. But mostly it makes me think something ain’t right upstairs. Maybe something as simple as attention seeking, but something.
Worse still, a grown adult with the same affectation, yikes! Habits, even ones you put on to feel clever and unique, have a way of becoming vices. Next thing you know you’re a 40yr old woman with a baby voice. Shiver!
But Pterry is the one who said that multiple exclamation marks are a sign of insanity. Plus touching the Twilight books might give me a rash and I don’t have my latex gloves here.
(italics mine)
I was going to reply with “This”, but instead I shall simply concur.
It reminds me of the stereotypical hippie chick kind of voice.
“So…yeah…we were all, like, really high this one time…and Mary was all like…wow…your eyes are really blue…and I’m like it’s so weird…they turn blue like every time I wear a blue top…it’s like karma or something…”
Especially as I don’t follow that convention myself.
Ellipses… make me feel like… the person is… gasping to breath… It’s really, really hard… to follow the thought … behind the post… excessive punctuation slows down… your reading…ellipses are like little speed… bumps.
I don’t mind capital letters, I forget them a lot myself, even spelling to a certain extent, because they don’t slow my reading down, as much.
Ellipses generally give me the impression the writer is posting a stream of consciousness.
posting on the message board…cause i’m bored…board and bored sound the same…but they’re spelled different…what’s the word for that…homonyms or homophones…i should have paid more attention in school…oh look a bird…
For some reason my mother uses nothing but ellipses when she writes emails. Handwritten she punctuates normally. It annoys the piss out of me. Similarly, I find your posts quite unreadable.
~Olive~, to me what you’re doing is ‘peacocking’ - analagous to wearing a big silly hat to show how unconventional you are. Far better, in my opinion, to show your uniqueness by what you write, rather than how you write it.
What was the name of the virus that messed with your brain? I’m interested to learn more about that.
I have no comment on your use of ellipses. I’m sure you’re aware that the style in which you communicate impacts on how your message is recieved. So long as you’re happy with how you come across, you go for it.
I know I’m late to the party, but am I the only person who imagines the OP standing on a hillside or mountaintop, staring tragically off into the distance after having dramatically pointed out her ellipses use? No?
It’s that or reminiscent of kanicbird (he’s one of our resident spiritual posters, correct?), which hurts.
It seems to have left her with epillipsy.
Or some other disease, causing excessive spots.
ETA, Nah, Epillipsy wins hands down.
You’re not alone, on either count. I have taken to skipping over kanicbird’s posts because I find them incoherent, but at least I think she’s posting in good faith. The OP here seems to take pride in expression that is actively hostile to the reader, while implying that any difficulty a reader has with it indicates mindless authoritarianism.
She’s welcome to post that way of course, as others have said.
Oh yes, lots of faith there ![]()
Maybe I’m just getting crazier but it seems kanicbird has been making more sense lately.
