For the past few months I have been in discussions with Peter Rees, the Executive Producer of the Discovery Channel show, Mythbusters. As of yesterday, he gave me the word that the production company, Beyond, has agreed to give me a trial as a researcher for the show! Details are still pending, but this is an exciting and amazing opportunity for me that I just had to share with you all, particularly since I’ve been given this chance as a direct result of my Staff Reports here at the Straight Dope. Shortly, I’ll be in touch with the production manager at Beyond to hash out the details. If this works out well, it may eventually necessitate a move to San Francisco, the US production location for the show–I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
Very, very cool indeed! You must give us a heads-up before the airing of any piece to which you’ve made particularly strong contribution. Will the researcher job nab you any onscreen appearances?
Thanks, guys! It hasn’t quite sunk in yet, but I sure am excited about this. You’ll all be the first to know when you can start looking for my name in the credits.
I have NO idea but it’s not without precedent in the industry, that’s for sure. I’m more of a behind-the-scenes kind of guy, anyway, but an on-camera appearance would be really cool.
