I am a Mythbuster!

Congratulations, QED. And to think I knew you when you were “just” another Doper. Of course, you were never ordinary!

So happy for you! Make us proud.

Well, I didn’t want to boast, but…

Too cool! Getting a job with Mythbusters is pretty much the coolest job anyone could ever hope to get. Hope everything goes well and you get to work on some awesome projects!

If you get on TV you should totally wear a Straight Dope t-shirt.

You know, before the lovely Kari stops by, sees post #62, and dashes for the phone to call her lawyers, I want to be perfectly clear that I was just kidding, and that the notion that she would be involved with anyone as patently odious as me is, of course, laughable.

::sigh::

Bah! I hope I look half as good when I reach your age. But, I doubt I’ll even make it to 90.

Come back here, you young whippersnapper, you! Why, I’ll thrash you within an inch of your life. Where’s my cane?

Damn. You made me spill my gruel all over my lap shawl.

YAY for you!
Good luck and keep us posted!

I am so very over the moon for you, Q.E.D.!!!
Very proud, indeed.

Now, don’t make us look stupid.
Some of us do a good enough job at that without your help, thankyewverymuch.

Whooooooo, Q.E.D. ! That is positively slopping over with awesome. Good luck and do the Dope proud!

For sure the coolest news I have hard all week.
When you move west we must have a dopefest. I will drive up from SoCal just so I can meet and shake your hand.
Congrats!

Q.E.D., congrats! I’m quite envious! I hope it’s as much fun as we all think it will be.

(Even if you are the new Buster)

That’s awesome! Congrats, Q.E.D.!

I just had to say I JUST saw (as in got home about twenty mintues ago) Adam and Jaime and the Pabst Theatre in Milwaukee, for that ‘lecture’ series (acutally more of a glorifield Q&A. If anyone else is going, they serve a drink called the Buster, which is just a Cosmo, but cheaper.
(The buster is a about half vodka with some cran juice and sprite. I asked for a grey goose and tonic (and Iasked them them make it as stong as the Buster. It came in a smaller glass and was probably about $7. But all and all, it wasn’t too bad.

Oh and another vote for trying to get Adam and Jaime over to the SD, I think they’d like it…I think it alot better the then fansite.

I have in my hand the contract for my research services with the Mythbusters! The production manager at Beyond phoned me last night and we had a very nice conversation, then she emailed the contract this morning. For reasons of confidentiality I can’t disclose most of the specifics, but let it suffice to say I’m a happy camper. My first two segment outlines will, naturally, be on a probationary basis so that they can decide if my work meets their needs and vice versa; after that, the sky’s the limit! They agreed to the fee structure I requested, and everything looks good. I’m supposed to call the production manager tonight to discuss the contract and clear up any details I might have questions about, then I’ll sign it and send it in. When they get it, I’ll be given my first assignments (which I can’t tell you guys about, due to contractual obligations–sorry!). I can’t wait to get started!

Is this a full-time gig, Q.E.D.?

BTW, here’s my story of meeting the Mythbusters and Kari.

I don’t know as you’d be able to classify it as either full-time or part-time. The work will essentially revolve around my current schedule, and will involve library and internet research, contacting various sources by email or telephone and writing up the segment outlines (essentially, a two to three page outline of how the segment should be shot), which will include things like the story behind the myth, suggested experiments to test it, possible real-life occurrences, the science behind it and sources of information, such as experts in that particular area.

I imagine it will take up a considerable amount of my free time, but it probably won’t seem much like work.

Do you suggest/choose a myth to research or do they? Are they looking for suggestions because I’ve heard of this keen website where people chatter about that sort of thing all day long that might throw out some ideas, dang …it’s on the tip of my tongue. Ummm…“Linear Idiocy”… “Forthright Fools”… nah.

Heh. As far as I know, they choose the myths they want me to research. I’m sure I could suggest some, but the PTB at Beyond have the final say, of course. Believe me, they get PLENTY of suggestions on the Mythbusters fansite over at discovery.com. I don’t know how they wade through all of them without getting headaches–some of them are that dumb.

And I can’t tell you how envious I am, becuase of contractual obligations. :stuck_out_tongue:
