Yep, I know exactly what you mean. Before I bought my digital camera, I had taken a total of 3 rolls of film in my whole life. Now, in the course of a year, I have hundreds of photos. Landscapes, family gatherings, horsies, my cats, a flower I saw once…
I love my camera! …and I think that I’m getting really good about composition.
I love taking pictures. I don’t have a digital camera though. I’m still working on getting myself a nice 35MM camera, possibly SLR. IMHO, the new APS cameras are the work of the devil.
Damn… sounds like you’ve got it worse than me. I just take pictures of various… uh… “scenes”. I say it like that for lack of a better word, not cuz i take naughty pix. A bunch are online too:
One of his less talented henchmen, of the sort that usually works in marketing departments, I’d say.
Buy a Yashica T4 Super. For about 170 bucks you get glass of a quality not ordinarily found in SLR lenses costing several times that much, enough control over the flash to make it useful in nearly any lighting conditions, a waist-level viewfinder, true pocket size and excellent exposure control in a weatherproof package. Act fast though; Yashica’s discontinued it, unable to come to terms with Carl Zeiss for continued use of the Zeiss T* lens.
Second choice for something inexpensive: Olympus Stylus Epic. About half the price of the T4. The lens isn’t a patch on the Zeiss in the Yashica, but it is faster (f/2.8 vs. f/3.5 on the Yashica). It doesn’t have the waist-level viewfinder, either, but overall it compares well with the T4.
You do give up a lot of manual control with a point-and-shoot such as these, compared with the low end SLRs, but the best camera in the world can’t take good pictures when it’s at home in your closet. Both of these are small and light enough to have with you all the time, and taking good pictures is mostly about noticing something picture-worthy, paying attention to light and composition, and then burning a lot of film. The rest is mechanics.
MR. Bear is sooooooooooo cute!!!
