I am a stupid fucking shitfucker.

Long story short: I just transmitted my tax return an hour ago. It said I owed $158. I thought that was wierd since I have never woed in the past and I made the same salary this year as last year and last year I got back $700. I figured the change was due to my divorce this past year.

15 minutes after transmitting my return to the IRS I decided to take one more look at it.

I realized that I had forgotten to claim my Hope Tax Credit for school. It’s a $1500 tax credit.

The IRS owes ME $1342. I do not owe them $158 dollars. It is looking like the only way to fix this is to file an ammended return form. I have never done this before.

I am dumb as fuck. :frowning:

You really should punish yourself for a mistake this big, you know. “Spare the rod, and spoil the Stinkpalm”

You probably already know this, but you can file an amended return.

There’s got to be a way to fix it… Check out the website at irs.gov (I’m pretty sure that’s right). There should FAQ or something that address needing to correct it.
I took the $3000 deduction for tuition and fees myself…I qualify, and I certainly paid more than that in tuition alone last year.

Well, that’s what you get for paying taxes.

Go to your local IRS office and tell them the problem. They’ll show you what to do. My experience with them in these kinds of things in the past has been pretty good. One time they took care of it right on the spot, in and out in ten minutes.

I hope they can take care of it. I feel like such a numb nuts. I KNEW something was wrong but couldn’t put my finger on it.

If I do file an ammended return does it take alot longer to get my refund?

Unless he happens to run into the Claims Analyst from Hell, whose pencil-necked-geekish soulless self reaches beneath his desk and pulling the secret lever, drops Stinkpalm into the land of ever darkness where he spend the rest of eternity listening to scratched Bee Gees vinyl and cleaning out cat litter pans with a butter knife grasped in his teeth.

Yes, Virginia, that was a run-on sentence. Deal with it.
