I really don’t know. I suspect if I got into it I’d think I might like it.
Ok. You talked me into it.
The women’s team gets lots of coverage. I’ll watch a game.

Low viewership is an insult to a government concerned with insults. You must be aware a number of governments are not sending official representatives to the games.
china has followed your suggestion of boycotting countries it finds fault with. It seems appropriate to follow their lead so I acknowledge your suggestion. So far it’s changed a number of my purchases. That’s how it’s going.
China got it mainly because they’re one of the few nations that can steamroll the will of the people with absolutely zero repercussions, and hence doesn’t have to worry about the filthy peasants whining about countless pressing needs that need the money far more than some overrated sports gala. You may think the IOC was morally bankrupt to give them both the Summer and Winter games in the span of 14 years, but there really wasn’t much competition. (Just to put in perspective, the runner up for this year was Kazakhstan. Freaking KAZAKHSTAN.
)
A number of nations, USA included, are doing a “diplomatic boycott”, which basically means that the athletes get to go but the guys in the suits, the ones who do all the ceremonial stuff like state dinners and speeches and commendations, stay home and refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of China as a sporting mecca or something. It’s a weak gesture, obviously, but I defy anyone to come up with anything better. Any kind of military intervention is an absolute non-starter, especially after our complete clown show in Afghanistan, and they produce too much stuff the world uses for any kind of economic boycott to have any teeth.
Eh, I guess I’ll do my part by continuing to not shell out for Peacock. American Ninja Warrior Junior is junk now anyway.
I stopped watching the Olympics because of the IOC.
I too would probably not have watched much, but I am Norwegian, so I would have checked some of it out.
However, with the IOC being terrible, the modern Olympics a bloated mess used by the elites to waste a nation’s money to benefit themselves, and China being ruled by an oppressive regime makes it easy for me to decide on the baby step to watching nothing.
