so i have been getting a rash on my neck, a bit like eczema, which ive had from birth. doc told me to see an allergist. we just got done with the scratch tests on my back, which tested for 102 allergens plus a control, and now we are doing 20 of the tests again with pin pricks im my arm.
I had this done on my back, and they said I was allergic to juniper, shellfish, and dogs. Well, I live where there’s lots of juniper, love to eat shellfish, and have a dog. I hate being allergic to stuff.
I passed on all 36 of the foods tests, thankfully, and all but one of the molds, which is also good since I’m in Florida.
The bad news: of the 56 or so pollens/danders they tested for, I’m allergic to 24.
24!!!
They didn’t even give me any medicine. I got a bunch of fragrance and dye-free moisturizer and hair gel, a prescription for the inhaler I was already using, and strict instructions not to wear cologne anymore.
And a lot of homeopathic mumbo-jumbo about probiotics and fish oil.
And an “allergen guidebook” which is really just a thinly disguised catalogue of hypoallergenic blankets and dehumidifiers and such.
The really weird thing was that the nurse practitioner who saw me kept insisting that the bags under my eyes were indicative of really severe allergies. What? I always thought they were indicative of not getting enough sleep. A cursory googlage suggests that she’s right, though.
Anyway, I’m supposed to write down all my reactions for two weeks and report back for a follow-up with one of the doctors.
ETA: sorry about the lack of punctuation and stuff in my OP. It was my second-ever post from my cellphone.
Be thankful. When I first got tested, before kindergarten in the mid-50s, every test required a hypo. The tests stretched over a period of weeks, about four shots each. If I ever had a fear of needles, it was gone then.
After each session my mother took me to a nearby Woolworths where she bought be a plastic dinosaur. I built up quite a collection.
I had a retest in college, to see if I was allergic to the jungle. (I wasn’t). That used the grid. So, don’t complain and get off my lawn!
Wait, the huge bags under your eyes can be caused by allergies? I always thought it was just a genetic thing that I constantly have dark circles under my eyes but maybe it is an allergy thing. I hate the thought of needles though so I will stick with my under eye bags and concealer and be happy about it.
No, see, you lost me at the word injections. That is more than I could handle, what with my fear of needles and all. Besides, knowing my luck the reports would come back that I am allergic to pizza, cats, penises and BBC and my life would lose all meaning.
