That’s right baby, I gots me a brand new computer. Oh yeah, it’s pretty sweet. 2.4 gHz, 512 megs of RAM, Combo DVD/CDRW, 15.4 inch screen. DId I mention that this is a laptop? With wireless networking?
That’s right, I’m reaching new levels of laziness. I’m watching TV in my living room, while syrfing the web. Too cool. No more dank, dungeon like computer room for me. I have seen the light, and it is good!
In my experience Laptops are more restrictive than desktop PCs.
And more hastle too. You’ve got to pack them away, and frantically plug them in when the batteries are going (after just 30 mins of the ‘2 hour battery life’).
And you can forget playing games on them. Only the most ludicriously expensive ones have a half-decent graphics processor in them.
But don’t let me rain on your parade.
(actually, give me a laptop with decent graphics, such as the nvidia nforce, and I am in heaven too)
Actually, mine has been suprisingly good with battery life, giving me just under 3 hrs. Of course, the battery is new, and that may change as it gets older.
As far as video cards go, I have a 64 MB ATI Radeon Card w/ TV out. It handles DVD and any games that I can throw at it with nary a pause.
I just have to keep reminding myself, “I got this for school. I got this for school…”
I feel your joy. I finally got a new (desktop) three months ago: AMD AthlonXP 3000+, 1GB RAM, 80 GB HD. I started with a GeForce4 Ti 4800, and I’m waiting for the prices to drop on the newest video cards.
Front-side USB 2.0 ports, a built-in multi-format card reader and a shiny new DSL connection have made me see the light. No more plugging in my digital camera and slogging through the lousy Kodak software to get to my pictures - now I pop the CompactFlash card in the reader and have instant access to the photos!
And I got mine for a good economic reason as well…there were all these games that I bought that my old rig couldn’t handle. So, I had to have SOMETHING new and fast, or those games would just gather dust and never get played…
I made a laptop my primary computer last year and it’s great. I can’t believe that I used to watch TV in one room and then had to get up and walk to another room to use the computer. Thank god for technology.
