I am looking for a word. Film makers do it, it's like a metaphor/allegory

Hi Everyone

I have an about 250 comment long post on Facebook debating WHAT this word I’m trying to find is

Reviewers of films/TV series use the word and film makers ‘use’ it.

For example, when Skyler in Breaking Bad goes into the cold blue swimming pool, it’s like a reference to the blue meth, (cold blue, ice, term for meth)

Can I give you more examples?

The end of an excellent film I watched also did it, I won’t ruin it for those who haven’t seen it but a person basically escapes from somewhere. Is in the artic wearing a furry coat. A polar bear looks at her and they lock eyes.

It’s supposed to be a (THIS WORD) regarding the fact they both have fur on.

I’ve checked all the synonyms for it and can’t find it

I DO however, remember a review of Breaking Bad Episode Fifty One (The one where Skyler goes into the pool, where he uses the word, but I just cannot find it
Any ideas…PLEASE?

I can also add, I seem to remember it being a word like Eulogy or Epiphany.

“allusion” might work?

Double post

Allegory?

None of these :frowning:

I hope I haven’t made this word up

It’s just like epiphany

Metaphor or irony come to mind but I’m sure those are not it. How about imagery?

None of these yet

Just like as in “*sounds *similar to” or as in “*means *something similar to” epiphany?

Analogy?

Euphemism?

It would be an unusual use of the word, but I could see “Visual euphemism” as a descriptor for that, and also reminding you of “epiphany.”

“Subtext”, maybe?

I hope you’re not thinking of homage – whether you pronounce it Omm-idge or Oh-Mazzh

metonymy?

synecdoche?

It could also have been that the blue of the pool “evokes” the blue meth. But that is more of a reminder of it than a metaphor for it.

Yeah, that’s a good one. Or “evocative.”

None of these guys :frowning:

Evocation? Inference?

Connotation? Implication?

This conversation reminds of this Kids in the Hall sketch.
