I am now in love with Irish pubs

I admit it. I was a pub virgin before last night. I mean, I’d had a drink or two at bars with Irish-y names, but I’d never really experienced a pub. Montreal has a whole bunch of great Irish pubs, and my friends insisted I live a little and experience the real thing.

I spent all of last night until 3am listening to a very talented duo playing Irish songs on the fiddle and guitar, drinking good beer and stomping my feet to the tunes. We joked around with the musicians and they took requests all night from my friends who know much more about that type of music than I do. I loved it so much I picked up their CD at the end of the night.

There is something really cool about singing along to a real “Irish drinking song” with everyone else in the pub while we sway our pints of beer back and forth.

Guess where I’ll be next weekend!

What’s not to love? Fun music, pleasant people, plentiful drinks, warm wood panelling, polished brass hardware…

I love Irish pubs too and Chicago has its share.

So where did you go? Hurley’s? Brutopia? Murphy’s?

Hurley’s.

Anyone in Montreal should really check it out on a Friday or Saturday night. Find a spot near the stage - it’s worth it.

Meh, I’m not that pushed
Glad you enjoyed yourself.

I had a pint in Le Vieux Dublin(I think that’s what it was called anyway) when I was in Montreal and it was a grand spot.

I prefer the quiet room myself. My guys and I once spent the afternoon there, went to Sanguine’s place for dinner, then ended up back in our same chairs until closing time.
