I am offended...

Since the pledge ruling I keep hearing that atheists do not have the right to not be offended by the mere mention god. Besides, the fact that this observation misstates the issue, the observation is false. I am not offended by the mention of god nor am I offended by people practicing their first amendement rights.
That said, I am offended by the government taking a side on the issue of god’s existence. I am offended that the president’s idea of common sense judges are those willing to ignore the constitution to advance Christianity. I am offended that a senator, a democrat no less, can suggest that if atheists do not like their second class status they can leave and still keep his job. I am offended that no politician condemned the death threats against Dr. Newdow.

I am offended that Cal Thomas can get away with suggesting the pledge ruling is a worse blow than the 9-11 attacks. I am offended that he would be right if the victims were all atheists. I am offended that demanding our government remain neutral is seen as intolerance but demanding government validation of one’s beliefs under the threat of violence is seen as excersizinng one’s civil rights. I am offended by those who are offended by liberty and justice for ALL.

I’m offended that you would steal someone else’s post and try to pass it off as your own. You think nobody would notice? Unless, of course, you’re Chad…But if so, why would you post under 2 names over there?

The hampsters ate my post, but I’ll hold off on reposting and see where this goes.

Well checkmate if you are not ‘CHAD’ I’d suggest you castle, cause your ability points are going down, down, down.

good hunting PEPPER
on a slightly different note, are the president and other members of congress not under the same first amendment rights to free speech? They can say what they want, weather you and your dual personality like it or not.

They can say what they want as private citizens, but when representing their constituents in the land governed by our constitution, they cannot.

Pepperlandgirl, how did you know that his post was plagarized? Had you read the original already? You are one sharp tack, Missie!

Oh yeah! well, I can plagerize if I want to! So THERE. I’m going home!

<sulks off> sorry

perhaps plagiarism is a form of flattery?

I thought this was a good post, until Peppergirl (I second the good hunting comment! Wow!)

I would agree that the POTUS and congress have the same first amendment rights, but sometimes I wonder if it would be wiser to clam up sometimes.

(btw-please forgive my ignorance about the word ‘castle’ in this sense. Is this a reference to check/checkmate?)

my two cents.

I read the Internet Infidels MB as much as I read the SDMB. I happened to have read Chad’s post earlier today, long before checkmate’s.

I think you’re misunderstanding First Amendment rights. Individual members of government are perfectly free to say whatever they want.

What Sen. Byrd said was truly stupid, but it’s not a violation of the Constitution.

What he can’t actually do is enact a law to deport atheists because they’re atheists or make it illegal for atheists to vote…

Although given his little Congressional soliloquy, he’d probably like to.

Yes Jorel castle is a reference to a move in chess that checkmate ought to learn.

and checkmate Plagarism is never okay. I don’t care if your posting on a messege board such as this one or if your writing a paper for pre-school. It’s never ok. Next time why don’t you quote the post, or link it and comment on it. Instead of saying I’m offended and cutting and pasting.

check.

Fantastic post.

Moronic poster.

Ain’t that a shame.

Uh oh! Checkmate, have you plagarized here before?

Holy moly, Pepperlandgirl, I am impressed!

my advice: get out more often! (all of us!)

Up-tight, Outta-site and in the Groove!

<shifty eyes> maybe…

Seriously though… Just that one other time. What can I say, I am a lazy bastard, and I like to get credit for things that aren’t mine sometimes. Most of the stuff I come up with is mine though. Once again though, I am sorry, and I will never, ever do it again. Ever.

<Wanders off to be alone again>:(

Pepperlandgirl

That was quite impressive!

Let’s stop with praising Pepper for reading another board, and start talking about Chekmate.

Chekmate:

You know that you’ve pretty much lost all the trust of everyone on the board? What’s going to stop you from plagarizing something else?

Yeah…that must be all she did…

Well, he pretty much has admitted not only that he was wrong, but was pretty self-effacing in the post above. I’m willing to give him another chance.

Chekmate, Dude…I’m sure you have some pretty interesting things to say, and great contributions to make - here and IRL. Just either make sure they’re your contributions, or else reference them, and you’ll do just fine.

So, Chekmate, by your own admission, you plagiarised not once, but twice within a time frame of a couple of weeks.

As you know, The Chicago Reader, owner of the Straight Dope Message Board, is a newspaper. Sources are everything in that business, Chek.
