One of the side effects of bariatric surgery is that small amounts of alcohol have a big effect. A few weeks ago I decided to test this with a tiny bottle of shiraz I got for 1.99 at World Market...about 6 ounces. It was effective, but not overwhelming. Tonight, due to circumstances that are outlined in a Pit thread, I decided that I need a bit of help getting to sleep...have slept poorly for the past few nights. So I stopped at the liquor store and bought three 99...where's the cent key.....99 bottles (50ml each) of Three different beverages. I just drank half of the Cask and Cream (Bailey’s was $1.99) and I am definitely feeling this. I don’t think I will need either of the other two bottles, though if I can stay upright long enough I want to try the Just Desserts Thin Mint. I would definitely not drive after a slightly larger drink than the one I had.
So for under a dollar I can feel really woozy, and less than two bucks will put me right into loopyland. Hope no one tries to take advantage…
Hon!
I met you at ClevelandDope a week or so ago and you were fun sober!
Are you asking for some cheap guy to take you out?
Goodness.
When I was getting paid to drink, I once had 13 shots in 2 hours and was sober(not blood alcohol wise of course, but no one would ever tell I was tipsy).
I’ve dated a cheap guy or two, and they are absolutely no fun at all. Always wanting to go to the early movie, or dinner before 4, or someplace that takes the coupons from the Entertainment Book. One used to brag so much about getting CD’s and movies from the library. Now I get CD’s and movies from the library too, and so does the last guy I was dating, but he never had the gleeful triumphant bragging about getting something for nothing that the cheap guy had. And coupons. The cheap guy spent a lot of time talking to me about coupons. I completely understood that his wife’s illness and death right after sinking their life savings into a business had put him in a precarious financial situation. But not only was he cheap financially, but emotionally, too.
You mentioned that interesting job at the CleveDope, and I didn’t get time to ask about it…what kind of job was it? Oh, and as the former wife of an alcoholic, there were times when he was convinced that no one could tell he was tipsy, but that was the alcohol doing it’s work! How long did it take for you to feel the effects?
I’m a very cheap date because I don’t drink at all.
Frank: What’s your poison?
Me: Coke please.
Frank: No, your poison.
Me: Coke’s poisonous.
Frank: Damn, I was hoping to get you drunk.
Me: You don’t have to get me drunk, babe.
FWIW, you’re not the cheapest date I’ve met. I had a friend in college who could be gotten silly, falling down, giggles and no impulse control - i.e. drunk, on a 16 oz Pepsi.
Different strokes I guess. I’d probably find myself attracted to someone who bragged about saving money and coupons, Just as long as they weren’t uptight and obsessive about it. If a woman used the pick up line ‘I have coupons for McDonalds’ i’d be there in a second. Its probably in part why I dont date though but wth.
And that must be weird to get drunk on such a small amount, does anyone know why it only takes a small amount of alcohol to get drunk with a smaller stomach? Is it all absorbed or are the enzymes that break down alcohol not working or what.
If I remember correctly, since there is very little digestion going on in my new pouch, the alcohol goes full strength to the intestines where it is quickly (damn straight!) absorbed into the blood stream. No dilution with stomach contents. And since we’re supposed to drink on an empty pouch (15 minutes before meals, one hour after meals) there is absolutely nothing to slow it down.
Also remember that it goes to your liver in an extra-strength kinda way…so you don’t want to be drinking a lot very often.
I have a pouch, too. Got mine almost 3 years ago. The problem I have is that most alcoholic drinks contain so much sugar that I get dumping syndrome from them and feel nauseous before I feel drunk. So I usually just stick to vodka. Next weekend I’ll be going out to drink for the first time in over a year (just had a baby recently) Cant wait for that!
