I hate youall.
I want this game and I can’t get it now without e-mailing some guy.
Which I’m too shy to do currently.
Bah.
A pox on all y’alls houses.

could the guy who ported the game be a reader of the SDMB?
Funny that it got locked down mid thread, as I imagine it’s been available @underdogs for some time now.
If so, THANKS MAN! JOO RAWK!
secret to killing the war god is maxed combat defense. I won the fighter tourn with my general with 68 hp max once. (wasn’t watching her consitution and she was dieting) the only time I beat the war god I had, I think, 250 hp?
Patience, grasshopper.
Tengu, I wasn’t trying! Maybe I’ll try for a Nun next
Does this have to be put on a CD, or can I store it on diskette?
I don’t have a CD burner, so I’d need my brother’s help to get a copy.
I downloaded that game a long time ago…
I’ve found that, if you try and play it off of the cd, you won’t be able to save. It will try to save to the cd, and that just doesn’t work…
I love that game!
Last day of fall break… and I’m going to have to spend it playing Princess Maker. All night.
Curse you!
Don’t worry, I’m not. Of course, this is all in the interest of looking out for my fellow dopers…No way I would want to play this game…heh heh…
I’ll keep you all posted.
No. And No.
I can’t remember off-hand how big the .zip file is, but I just checked the size of my pm2 directory and it is a smidgeon under 20Mb, so you can’t store it on diskette. You run it direct from the hard drive, under DOS.
If you search on “Princess Maker” and “abandonware”, you may well find another site from which you can download a copy.
Anyone that is REALLY stuck can e-mail me and offer to trade a large bag of those little Reese’s(?) peanut butter cupcakes for a CD with it on, tho’
So I beat the war god, almost easily. She had 999 hp, 999 strength, and a good 500 morale. I got his sword, and then Valkeria gave me HER sword later on. I killed all three Criminals. Noone could get NEAR me.
She became a General.
I then tried to raise a High Class prostitute. I managed to raise another gutter slut. ugh.
Ok, I swear I must being playing a different game than the rest of you.
See my troubles above … I polished up that game I was playing, saw her through to her 18th birthday. What did she end up being? A part-time grave yard worker. Oh what joy. My pride is over-flowing.
So that was useles.
I re-read this thread to see if I could pick up any tips. I started a new game using what I thought was my new found knowledge.
I put her right in school and right to work. I took her on vacation. I bought her a new dress. By the time the second month came along I was once again broke, and the little shit fucks up every job she goes to … so no money coming in. I stuck with for a month or two, before the same routine came back. … work, make no money, can’t afford school, adventure, get ass kicked, get sick, run away … become a ditch digger.
Fuck that, says I, no daughter of mine.
So I turned into the Burning Bed Dad … I starved her, I scolded her at every turn, I sent her to the worst jobs no matter how sick she was. … She died right after her 11th birthday.
I hate this game!
Well, I’ve already heard back. This guy’s really on the ball. Any way, here’s his mail in full:
And there you go. TPWombat’s got the right idea, though. I found it on the first hit on a very popular search engine.
How long before this thread gets closed for distribution of copyrighted materials?
[Mod Hat: ON]
Alright, if someone does plan on exterting their copyright on this game, then I want no more discussion on this thread of how to download or swap copies of the game. Continuing to bitch about how this game drains all the life out of you is fine.

Jack-
A few notes, gleaned from playing this game far too much.
Of course, generally, when you’re sending your daughter off to do the job the first few times, she’s going to suck at it and not get paid. Expect this. Expect to be nearly broke most of the first few years (until you start winning Harvest Contests in October, or being able to send your daughter off adventuring, or get good enough at the really well-paying jobs).
Keep in mind, though, that there’s not a lot you need to spend money on early on. You’ve got plenty of money for a normal diet and winter & summer clothes. When your daughter is stressed, you can give her time off without pay, and that knocks off some stress. Eventually- maybe after the sixth or seventh time- she’ll be able to work on the farm consistently well, and you can expect 120-130 gold each session.
Personally, I push for getting her to win the second Harvest festival. Her first year is spent in a mixture of Housework (the only way to raise Temperment, and I believe Temperment affects how well she works under stress, but I don’t really know) and Farmwork (for money). Once she’s done in Housework, push her into Farmwork heavily, and spend money on Painting classes. Hopefully, by the time the second Harvestfest rolls around, she’ll have gotten to a mid-80’s skill and been asked to paint a picture by the teacher. If so, then 4000 gold is mine for lots of schooling the next year.
Another option is to push heavy on Housework the first year, then switch over to Babysitting. It doesn’t pay much, but raises Sensitivity, and winning the Cooking contest seems to be based on both Cooking and Sensitivity. It doesn’t pay as much- 3000 gold- but may be easier to get. Hell, maybe you can get that the first year, depending on your daughter’s birthday.
But just be patient. You’ve got eight years to raise her, and you can’t do everything the first year.
Well, I just finished rasing my first daughter. Did she become a Princess? No. Did she become a General? No. What did she become you ask? The freaking King’s concubine. What the hell? That dirty old man. Makes my little girl into some type of high class hooker. Sheesh, I am so disappointed. Oh well, I guess its back to the drawing board.
You poor bastards. I post about how this game is ruining my life, and you all have to run out and try it. I suppose you all dropped acid after reading Go Ask Alice too.
I’m at home for the weekend and away from my copy of PM2, but I’m feelin’ that Jones already and I’m sure I’ll be back to my wicked ways once I return to my dorm room…
What I’m really amused by is that I played the game for a couple of hours months ago, said something about midway between “enh” and “meh”, and deleted it. And now I share some small slice of responsibility for pointing out the Underdogs, it seems.
Is this good karma or bad?
CoughSputter* Merchant? Merchant?! How dare she go off and marry some merchant become a housewife!! After all the time and money I spent on her? Do you think it was free to train to become a master poet? Well, do you?? Maybe if you weren’t running away all the damn time and sleeping in sick in bed, you could have made something of yourself! Do you realize you missed the Harvest Festival twice?? Do you? That’s 6000gp you could have brought home with your cooking skills! What, do you think I let you learn to become a master chef so you could spend your time flirting with the hired help? Do you think I bought you that jewelry so you could sit in some merchant’s living room sewing all damn day for the rest of your life? How about the salon? You loved the salon! She gave you three raises! But noooooo… you have to go off and marry a merchant! Away with you!
Oh, and Saturn? Don’t tell me I was a ‘passable’ father. That was your damn daughter I was raising. Maybe if you took a more active role in your child’s life than launching her down to earth in a cosmic egg of light and then sitting back and watching for eight years, things might have been different, huh? Do you know how hard it is to be a single parent? Of course you don’t; you shipped your child off! Sheesh…
Stupid game. Wait until next time. I’ll show 'em all when I raise her beloved daughter to be a strumpet and a whore.
GrumbleMutterSnarl…
My first daughter, after all the training that I did, decided that she wanted to be a housewife! She married some random ‘kind wizard’, and never had children.
My second daughter ran away every other month for the entire game.
I knew there was a reason that I didn’t want kids.
My first daughter, after years of weapons training and adventuring, kicking ton’s of ass, wound up a rich merchant’s concubine! I guess buying the spiky dress and working in the cabaret wasn’t such a hot idea.
Although, getting to see her nekkid at the end made up for it.
BTW, I hate you all for introducing me to this game
With my first daughter Batman Stringcheese, I only trained her for combat. I thought “Hmmm, maybe she’ll be a general.” Nope. She turned out to be a Mercenary, and married a knight! I should’ve seen this coming when she was 15 and thrown in jail for highway robbery. She also told me she hated me, and that I was a terrible “father” who made her work as a lumberjack too much. [sup]What? She was a strong kid, I tell ya![/sup]
So with my second daughter Credit Card, I thought “Screw this! You’re gonna go work in the Cabaret, and make me some money! I’ll show you ‘bad father’!” I raised a Harlot, promised her to the Dragon Prince, and she really hated me.
“Ok,” I thought. “She wants to be a wuss? I’ll let her work in the Salon, and give her Poetry and Art lessons.” Big surprise, Ramen Godzilla turned into an Artist and married a Merchant. [sup]Let’s see, shall I fight evil and save the mermaids from the oppressive fishmen, or paint a pretty picture for the day care?[/sup]
The secret for getting her to marry Cube all depends on how much Cube love™ she has for him.
Cube takes care of her when she’s sick, scolds her when she spends your money in town (Delinquent), or brings her equipment/saves her when she loses battle while adventuring = 2 Cube love points.
Loses to first round of combat tournament and Cube consoles her = 5 Cube love points.
She has at least 100 charisma, loses to any of the boses, and Cube saves her from being raped = 22 Cube love points.
Just don’t let her go out to dinner with a blonde haired guy in town, or she falls in love and Cube love goes down.
Ok, I came up with an extremely easy strategy for getting her to marry Cube without the whole hassle of the bandit. If you want to find it out on your own (and really, it’s not that hard to figure out,) don’t read my post.

Still here? Ok, raise your daughter however you’d like. 3 or 4 months before her 18th birthday, go to town and buy the cheapest sword. You don’t have to if you already have 2 weapons or 2 armor. When planning her schedule, make her adventure for the whole month in the Forest. When you get there, plant yourself right by the entrance (especially for those of you who have almost no fighting experience.) Choose to camp, and then choose equip. Pick the sword/armor you don’t have with you, then rest. Cube should bring it to you the next day. Camp again, equip again, rinse and repeat. Do this for 3-4 months. Adventuring doesn’t add any stress, so you don’t have to worry about her getting rest in between adventures. After this, your Cube love™ should be high enough to guarantee that they marry.
I’ve only tried this with 2 daughters, and neither of them had much fighting experience or sin. Let me know if it works with one that does.
Still haven’t found out how to get the prince though…
I got the Prince once. You have to talk to him every year, and I expect you need decent stats in Refinement/Decorum/Morality/Sensitivity.
So far, I’ve raised a Housewife, a Harlot, and a Queen. Run the gamut, as it were.
