Now that you have a spare panel, you can use it as a subpanel for more slots than you will ever need. Hopefully it is the same brand but it needn’t be as you still have the oldish breakers in that case. I did that when we added on, put everything vital on it, and added a generator tie-breaker switch to it. Late in the game for you now but I missed this thread 2 years ago. I’d have suggested it then.
A good suggestion. I did leave room for a small subpanel in case I need it in the future. But my old panel is, well, old. And nasty. I’m going to ruin the bus bars so somebody else doesn’t decide to use it, and leave it on the curb for a scrapper.
