I can’t believe I’ve only just realised it - but both my parents and I are replacing our computers, and the “child at Christmas” excitement I am feeling at the opportunity to configure these two and recondition the old ones for further use is overpowering!
We ordered the new PCs on Monday, and they were going to be delivered today. However, we explained that there would be no one in the house, so they’re coming on Monday evening. I am heartily disappointed, because I was looking forward to a whole weekend surrounded by PCs.
I’m going to move the hard drives around, and install Windows 2000 on one of the old ones and use it as a server… and I’m going to reformat the other old one and reinstall Win98… I’m going to reinstall all my games on the new PC and even get some new ones to make full use of its power. I’ve got all sorts of plans… I was lying in bed last night till nearly 2am, mentally making these plans - including where I’m going to put all the PCs.
I’m tingling all over. I’m such a geek. Help me.
I can’t exactly help you, as I get excited over new computers, too! The only thing I can say is: what’s wrong with being a geek? I’m a geek!
1: I share your excitement. Today I’m getting a 2nd hand PC from a friend who recently replaced his, but even his old one is way better than the clunker I have.
2: Awesome username
3: Be prepared for some of your older games to not work anymore
Have fun, ya big nerd!
I think that to an extent, we are ALL geeks here, so you’re in good company!
Welcome! I too had moments like these when I was growing up, its a great feeling. Sounds like you may have a future in tech support if you are enjoying yourself so much!
Anaamika, sharing a character trait with you makes me feel special ;).
Bongmaster - I did work in tech support for about 2 years - while solving someone’s problem did feel good, explaining to idiots that your modem only works when plugged into your phone line (etc) gradually wore me down. Glad to see the back of it.
Awww… shucks… - glad you like it!
It’s so nice to be around you guys, as mr bus guy said. And I’ve got to thinking… if I’m so excited about Monday, it’ll:
- Make the weekend last longer
- Make me happier when Monday comes around
although
-1) Monday at work will drag and drag
but if that’s the case, I could
- SDMB all day!
WOOOOO!
I like your os choices for the old machines. Much smarter than bogging them down with the latest bloatware. I won’t part with my Win98 se system disk, for my needs that’s the best Microsoft OS.
If your old games won’t run on the new machines you’ve got a clean win 98 install waiting for them.
Yeah but can you make the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs?
Last weekend, I bought all the components for my first computer build from scratch, except they didnt’ have a video card I wanted. Thursday, the videocard arrived, and now I’m going to be out of town until Sunday. So Monday is the earliest I can finish this up.
GAHHH!!! I feel like a kid staring at all the wrapped Christmas presents, and I can’t open any of them.
I bow before the face of ultimate geekery.
you really do need help if you’re a geek and don’t want to be. sorry.
