Here I am, at E3, the largest gathering of video and computer game companies in the world. I can (literally, with my media badge) see anyone and get food and drink from any company in the industry just by walking up.
I just had half an hour in complete privacy with Lord British himself, Richard Garriott.
And when I got out I snuck off to the media center to check the boards.
Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Not that I want a break or anything. But man, is this place’s hold on me strong.
But seriously, I know what you mean. When I visit home the first thing I think of is, “Christ, I haven’t been to the SDMB all friggin’ day!” Slaves, I tell you. Slaves.
Its okay Jonathan, I’ve not posted, much less visited this site, in months and yet somehow, I was strangely drawn to it tonight. Hey neat, my first post in a way long time!
At easter, when I was on vacation in Florida, I would usually volunteer to take Baby Babe II up for her afternoon nap. Once she was asleep, I would inevitably be drawn to the Boards. Only after I checked would I begin to read my book.
I’m a newbie to the boards, but being the nerd I am the boards are, at this point, a welcomed point of release for mental exercise. I’m sure when I hit GaTech for college my tune will change.
Yes, here I am again. I just got done being wined and dined by the LucasArts folks (a tip…Knights of the Old Republic looks absolutely killer, folks) and I dumped the editor I was with and came here again.
Yes, I’m in sunny Los Angeles (though it’ll be in Vegas next year).
Check when I registered. Now check my post count. Does that tell you anything?
Why do I post so much? Well, on my other board, you can’t talk about yourself, poll, ask for advice, post about nothing (MPSIMS), say you liked something, ask what everyone’s doing for the weekend, start deliberate flamewars… you get the picture. However, we used to be able to do all those things when I first joined two years ago. So I’m suffering from almost a year of pent-up posts.
I am on the boards all day at work. I love the near realtime interaction. I often check it from home in the evening, and sometimes will start a thread before leaving work, knowing that by the time I get home, there will be replies.
BTW: There’s a Jonathan Chance on one of the local L.A. radio news stations. Maybe “KFWB news 98.” Or the other one, I think it’s KNX (maybe 1070). They’re AM (not FM). At least I think! Things appear fuzzy at times.
Hey, you can say the same for me. I have grown to like the interaction here, and the support this community shows for its members is amazing to me.
Now, as to why I post so much: there could be an argument made thatI have nothing else better to do, and that is definitely not true at all. But when I do go out, my first thought upon coming back is “I’d better get on the boards and see what’s happened there!” I’m at my brother’s now, and the first thing I think of is spending lots of time on their way faster computer to read the boards and post!
I also like having a place where I can say what’s on my mind (within reason, of course), and just being able to take in the sense of camaraderie that people have here.
Oh well, it’s all good. (at least, until I get really bored…)
If not for this board, I’d likely go crazy. Or at least go crazier. My job has lots of down time and I often need to at least appear to be doing something. Now at least I have something to look forward to each day when I arrive at my 6X4 Habitrail haven.
