A big Paul McCartney Lookalike contest was held in late 1966.
The winner was never announced.
The guy who won was ironically “introduced” as “Billy Shears” in the segue between “Sgt. Pepper” and “A Little Help From My Friends.”
Billy was able to continue producing McCartney tunes for a few years, probably delving into Paul’s old notebooks, but it looks like the well ran dry around 1970 or so…
(Old NATIONAL LAMPOON Beatles trivia joke:)
Q: When did Paul McCartney write “Silly Love Songs” ?
A: 1962-
Yeah, eventually. But the year Abbey Road was released he was only 27 (1969). He wasn’t 28 until 1970, when Let It Be was released.
Alright, you all have clues that he’s dead, but do you know how he died?
Apparently, while gawking at lovely Rita, he didn’t notice the light had changed, and he was in a horrible accident. He lost his head, that’s why it was easy to pretend he never died, nobody could really claim it was his body. Apparently, it was a Wednesday morning, because in Lady Madonna “Wednesday morning, paper’s didn’t come.” Obviously, it was a conspiracy to keep the news of Macca’s death a secret, so they didn’t send out newspapers proclaming the news.
“Billy Shears” could be taken as two different things. Either “Billy’s Hear” or Billy Shears is the guy’s full name.
OK, I got my Sgt. Pepper handy and I’m ready to play.
Uke, I see the “o” but I’m not getting the date from the bass drum. (in a thread with such sarcasm it’s difficult to tell what’s real, though there’s nothing to get hung about).
Oh, wow there’s so much here, how could they make it so obvious? The particular lyrics superimposed on their heads on the back of Pepper are a sure give away.
The words on Paul’s head “behind a wall” meaning perhaps the door to his coffin or the wall of Earth between his corpse and the world.
While the other 3 all have words that induce imagery of loss or depair.
John - Then it’s far away
George - They worry me
Ringo - Nothing to do…got nothing
Also, on the front cover over Paul’s head is a hand seemingly waving good-bye and the guy above him has his eyes rolled up as if to be looking toward the heavens, plus Paul is the only one holding a ‘black’ instrument, and as we all know black is the color of death.
