I CAN'T be the only person watching HGTV's Design Star!

Can I??

I sure hope not! For all of you who have watched the “surprise hit of the summer”, I would love to have your thoughts and opinions. Did anyone get shafted? Are the two finalists the best designers of the original ten? Who did you love and hate? And who are you voting for?

I only watched it sporadically and only for David ‘cause he’s so freakin’ hunky. (swoon) But, looking at the final rooms, I think he deserves to win even if he wasn’t so dishy; his room really does show design talent.

Oh god, so many times over the past 8 weeks I’ve looked for and then considered starting a thread on Design Star. This has been my guilty summer pleasure!

Yes, yes, yes, David is just too darn cute! And his design style is pretty cool, as well. He definitely deserved to be in the top 2, and I believe he will win.

Alice is good, as well, but her style is a little pedestrian. Nothing about it stands out and makes me say “Wow!”

Remember Ramona? What a hoot she was…I remember thinking that if I had been in the running to be on this show, I would have been really peeved that they chose her over me. Plastering a broken down vacuum cleaner with putty and calling it design is…nutso. And the mural!!! Just, wow.

Loved the Temple & Donna trauma. Meow!

I would have liked to see more of Joseph, and I think the twins would have been great co-hosts of their own show. I was so happy when the arrogant Vanessa got booted after her horrible “glam-o-licious” crap room.

Tym had some good stuff, but again, I don’t think he did anything that I would like to put in my own home. Loved Vern’s quip about the chain hanging from the ceiling in the Pet Store challenge: “It looks like a noose for a hamster.”

I don’t quite get the appeal of Clive, however. He isn’t bad, but he sure isn’t Tim Gunn!

I believe Vannessa’s style was “glam-a-listic”; glamourous yet minimalistic. Whatever.

I will be voting for David. I may not be a huge fan of his particular style, but I can see that he know’s what he’s doing. When they did the rooms based on one particular store, his was just flat-out amazing. I believe that Cynthia Rowley called him either brilliant or a genius. Whichever word she used, she was correct. It was fantastic! He’d be great on TV.

I like Alice better as a hostess because she’s just so darling but I think David’s designs were better.

Ramona was a hoot from the bun on top of her head to her vacuum sculpture. Wondered whether her mural of Temple was a compliment or an insult.

Didn’t really get to know Joseph. But it was a stupid idea to only spend $1000 on a living room when the budget was $2000 and then recovering a sawed in half couch to save money. The drapes looked nice but new flooring would have done wonders for that space. Personally I would have put in new carpet, painted and accessorized the room, and reupholstered the existing couch. I blame Vanessa as much as Joseph because I think it was her idea to save the homeowners’ money.

Donna is probably a fantastic designer for people with big dollars to spend (to hire contractors) and oodles of time to do it in. She just couldn’t work under the time and budget restraints of the show. You can’t spend a half a day shopping for the perfect table when you have 24 hours to complete a kitchen. And her budget management was deplorable. She left Tym and Joseph without any money at all! She should have either given each designer a set dollar amount or given each room a budget based on square footage.

Temple was obnoxious and overbearing but I did like her designs. She should have gotten the boot after her kitchen disaster, however. You shouldn’t promise the sun when you can only deliver the moon. Pine flooring in the kitchen? Um, Temple, there’s a reason flooring is non-porous in kitchens and baths. She would never have made it as a show hostess as she’s just too abrasive and too inexperienced. Did she really think she could get a new floor, new cabinets, new backsplash tile, new appliances AND a new countertop with $10,000 and 24 hours of work time?

Really liked Tym but his designs got old after a bit.

Vanessa bugged the crap out of me when she absconded all the credit for the Manhattan townhouse design. David’s handprint was all over that room. I did think it was funny that she thought she’d hit a home run with her “glamalistic” design and then was voted off.

Teman and Teran were done a disservice by HGTV by having them both compete against each other. I couldn’t keep their designs straight in my head.

I liked the final challenge in that each designer was given an equal sized room with an equal sized budget. I thought a lot of the challenges were unfair. You could do a lot with $2000 in a bedroom, but not a whole lot in a kitchen. And Tym had a severe disadvantage by having to work in NYC (vs. Oklahoma and Washington), where the prices were probably a lot higher and delivering furniture can be a major headache. Plus his “helper” was next to useless.

My respect for this show has been restored based on the final two. Their other contestants were either obnoxious like Temple or weird like Ramona or overbearing like Vanessa. I like David and Alison. The pet store room David did was amazing. The apartment Alice pulled off was very nice.

I’d have to go with Dave over Alice in the finale because I like the sense of serenity his room projects. Still, this is one of the few competitive reality shows where I would be happy to see either person win.

David D a v i d D A V I D ! ! !

To me Alice never quite finished a room - white sheets on a kid’s bed???

but i think she did a terrific men’s room which was acceptable to the wife.

I would have liked David to have padded the kid’s play area.
