I can't believe I lost sleep over this....

Last night I tossed and turned for a good hour because I could not for the life of me, pinpoint where I had heard the term “googly bear” from. I KNEW it was said by a female as a term of endearment but other than that I was stumped. I remember thinking to myself “I’ll google it in the morning” but I couldn’t accept that. The more I thought about it, the closer the answer came. Several times I had an “aha!” moment and then suddenly it was gone. Drove me mad. Honestly, the ONLY reason I got to sleep was because I finally figured out where it came from.

Anyone else have one of those frustrating moments where you have a quote or line or something in your mind and you can NOT remember where you heard it from? And by the way…it was Monsters Inc :smack:

Thank god for Google. If I hadn’t been able to find that, I would have had to hunt you down and give you a stern talking to.

Yes, I have moments like that all the damn time. A very similar one I had once was, “Great Googly Moogly!”

I can’t remember any others right now. I’m just too damn tired.

I know this! It’s from Monsters, Inc. Celia (Jennifer Tilly) used Googly Bear as a pet name for Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal).

I watched this two nights ago with my two year old when she couldn’t sleep due to her cold.

In case anyone is wondering where they’ve heard the phrase “Googly, googly, go away!” - Well, I’m not going to tell you.

Hah!

Thank God for my iPhone- I am looking stuff up all the time when I’m stumped!

Well I almost had to give you a stern talking to also! I was like, argh! Where did I hear “Great Googly Moogly” from?? Luckily I have a kid so I figured it out pretty quick

It’s worse when you hear a song and can’t figure out where you know it from. Triple worse if it’s instrumental and you can’t even use a snippet of lyrics to try Googling it.

I’ll have something like the OP’s experience at least once a month and usually more often than that. Faces, names, songs, scenes, even words will get stuck in my “almost mind” and just won’t go away until I do something to root them out. Usually that will involve the internet in one way or another.

Just this week, as a case in point, we began watching a Netflix disk of the first season of Mad Men and I knew I had seen the mistress before. As luck would have it, the cast lists at IMDB for the show went on and on with those little pinkynail views of some of the actors and I had to go person by person to their pages and look for better pictures. Finally, after at least an hour of looking, I located Rosemarie DeWitt who had been one of the leads in “Standoff” (2006) that I had watched regularly. Why that was cancelled in midstream, I don’t know.

That sort of thing goes on a lot with me.

I already know. /smug

This often happens to me, involving names, usually.
Just a couple days ago, Satellite^Gal and Iwere at her mom’s place, and we were chatting about people we used to work with back home (the three of us worked at the same place back then.) I said a line S^Gal’s mom and another woman used to use all the time there, and, for the life of us, we couldn’t remember that woman’s name. Ended up, her mom had to call a friend from back home, to ask her who that was. As soon as she told us the name, we were all :smack: of course!!

S^G

Before the internet (with Google and IMDB and lyrics sites), this kind of crap happened to me all the time. Yes, I have lost a lot of sleep trying to remember a name, or what other movie I’d seen that actor in, or “what IS the last line to that verse?”
And I’m rather embarrassed to admit that I didn’t have to ask my kids where “Great Googly Moogly!” is from–oh, and thanks, guys, for the earworm.
Goes off singing to myself–“Maaa-gie–and the Ferocious Beast!”
