Enchanted. My kids MADE me go, and I was gritting my teeth and dragging my feet all the way to the theater.
Loved it. Saw it again.

Grr. An hour ago my wife started watching Love, Actually again, and again I’m hooked into it. This must be the fourth time I’ve seen the damn thing. It really is a bloody good movie.
I’ve always hated westerns (John Wayne is a big reason) but I loved **Tombstone ** and, surprisingly, The Quick and the Dead.
Scary movies are not my bag, but An American Werewolf in London and **28 Days Later ** were great IMO. I almost missed seeing American Psycho thinking it was a slasher film. My cousin talked me into watching and now it’s one of my favorites.
One last - **What A Girl Wants ** is so much better than I thought it would be. I’ve watched it 3 or 4 times and I enjoyed it each time.
I just saw this 3 nights ago. Why I would enjoy the hell out of a teenybop flick is beyond me, but I did!
I have essentially zero interest in musical theatre, but I was surprised at how much I was entranced by Topsy-Turvy, when it popped up on cable one day.
Of course, I suppose I should have known better, because I do usually like Mike Leigh.
Love, Actually just finished and yet again I had to get up and go to the toilet so I could blow my nose. What a sap I am: it’s so brilliantly manipulative.
(BTW I loved Topsy-Turvy. I think it’s just so brilliantly acted - not a miscast in the whole movie.)
f First Shrek. I had no interest and it was actually quite cute.
Napolean Dynamite, I do not know why.
Tough question for me. I can find movies I like in just about any genre, from gore to action to weepies to western to chickflick to cult, etc.
One that comes to mind is Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. When it came out I thought it looked like a low-rent Jeff Spicoli knockoff. The ads looked terrible. One day, years later, I was at a party and this was playing. Not only did I laugh my ass off, I thought it was a very clever movie. Even in the cold sober light of day I ended up really liking it a lot.
Sugar and Spice, a movie about a bunch of cheerleaders who rob a bank. Who knew?
Transformers.
Seriously. I’m the biggest geek + the biggest snob I know. I didn’t see Fantastic Four for about a year because I knew it sucked. I figured… Transformers? Michael Bay? Bumblebee is not a beetle? Suckage.
But you know what? It’s a good movie. No. It’s a great movie.
That is all.
I cam in to say “Harold and Kumar,” but that’s been taken.
So I’ll go with “South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.” I hated the show, always have, and still do. For some reason, the movie was ten times better.
Who would have thought that Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl would turn out to be as good as it was (given that it was inspired by the Disney theme park attraction and was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, a major schlockmeister)? But it was great. Sadly, the sequels were not.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Mona Lisa Smile. I knew nothing about it, except it had Julia Roberts in it, and was a chick flick. But one night, my wife suggested we watch it, since she wanted to see it. So, partly since we’d sat through a number of my selections in the week prior, I put it in.
What a surprise it was–like Dead Poets Society, only better, IMHO. I was drawn into the story, and ended up enjoying the film very much. I’ve seen it at least once since then, and will watch it again sometime.
The first time I watched Resident Evil, I turned to daHubby and said “I can’t believe I blew $2 on renting that dog!” When it came on sci-fi a couple weeks later, I made myself sit thru it and became a fan of the series.
Damn you! shakes fist That’s what I came in here to say!
You only watched that movie because I tied you down and made you watch it!
Thirded. I usually can’t bear watching the unfunny oversized infant, but that movie was great.
I don’t really have any genres that I out-and-out hate. I really shouldn’t like Dragonfly as much as I do, but God help me, it broke me in half. My Best Friend’s Wedding surprises me every damn time I watch it - I don’t like movies like that, but I do like that movie.
The 40 year old virgin - I don’t really like dumb comedies but laughed my arse off with this film, and actually thought it was quite touching as well.
In a similar vein Evil Woman which I liked so much I got on DVD (I mean it’s got Jason Biggs in it for fucks sake, how could it be that good - but it was!).
Agree that Pirates of the Caribbean: Cure of the Black Pearl was WAY better than I was expecting it to be (and that the sequels sucked like a nuclear powered vacuum cleaner).
So you see…there can be a downside to fighting ignorance.
Being the type of person who HATES dumbfuck teenager movies, I fully expected to hate Superbad. I laughed my ass off!
I recently watched *Kiss Kiss Bang Bang * expecting an OK movie. (I don’t watch things I’m expecting to hate) I didn’t expect it to be a fandamtastic movie. One of the best I’ve seen in a long time.
