I Can't Believe I Loved That Movie

Twister. Yep.

Maybe I would have enjoyed that film if I could have heard a word of the dialogue, yelling into the wind as they were constantly - possibly a film to be viewed with subtitles.

Take the Lead immediately sprung to mind. You know, the feel good film where Antonio Banderas teaches a group of troubled inner-city youth how to ballroom dance, who must then compete for the self-respect they’d so been lacking. Utterly formulaic, completely devoid of major character development, a hodgepodge of cliches that you only pay $2 to see so you can laugh at it with friends…

And I adored it. Go figure.

Ugh , I turned that movie off after twenty minutes into it , does it get any better or is the movie an aquired taste.

Declan

My most enduring question from that movie ( love actually) , who uses a manual type writer , i mean cmon.

But yeah , tears of laughter and tears of joy with that movie.

Declan

The rest of the movie is pretty much like the first 20 minutes. Once the shock of so much bullshit being presented to you all at once wears off, it’s easier to handle though. I actually liked the movie a lot.

I came here to mention the last Rocky flick. What was it, Rocky 6? The one where he fights Mason “The Line” Dixon. That wasn’t just a good film - I thought it was fantastic.

Another vote for 40 Year Old Virgin. There was an underlying sweetness to it that I totally didn’t expect.

I see a lot of votes for Mean Girls here. I knew from the start that I would love that movie so it doesn’t count I guess. I always liked Tina Fey stuff.

I am embarrassed to submit 13 Going on 30 I liked the idea. I would have love to be 30 when I was 13.

Oooh, lobstermobster, I’m with you on 13 Going on 30. I was surprised at how cute and entertaining it was–Jennifer Garner was really quite endearing in it.

I dislike dumbass fratboy humor, so I was shocked that I liked Little Nicky with Adam Sandler. Yeah, the jokes were dumb, but what’s not to like about Hitler taking a pineapple where the sun doesn’t shine? And Ozzy showing up to bite off the villain’s head? And various other silly visual pranks that were usually funny and only occasionally lame.

I flew to Europe a few weeks ago (and back, of course), and Hot Rod was offered on the return leg.

I typically don’t like movies in the stupid-humor slacker genre, of which Hot Rod seemed to be a member. I had no interest in it during its theatrical run, and I’ve ignored comments about it elsewhere. But hell, I’m stuck in an airplane over the ocean for several hours, and I’ve never, ever been able to sleep during a flight, so what the hell else am I going to do?

To my enormous surprise, I enjoyed the movie. A lot. Wonderfully absurd, and very smart about its stupidity, with good supporting characters and several standout comic moments. I liked it enough that I feel comfortable recommending it to the right kind of viewer. It’s not perfect (Sissy Spacek is totally wasted), but much, much funnier than I expected it to be.

That’s especially true in comparison to some of the other in-flight movies, such as Mr Bean’s Holiday and License to Wed, which gave me cancer.

Lots of writers still use manual typewriters.

I came in to mention the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, but that’s taken. So I’ll just admit that I enjoyed Must Love Dogs. I think it’s the refreshingly understated delivery of some of the funnier lines.

Pulp Fiction

I really did not expect to like this. The description I heard was “very very violent, the underbelly of society, but funny” Ugh, I hate violence!

I am a pretty girly, nicey, sweetie type movie lover. But I suppose I am a whore for dialogue where the characters speak like I WISH people spoke (cf. Coen Bros.).

I LOVED it. The funny thing is my friends that made me go thought I walked out. I was suffering from a back injury at the time and couldn’t sit down for long, so walked to the back of the theater to stand after about 30 minutes. My friends thought I’d left in disgust, but I was just in the back laughing my ass off.

When people ask me my favorite movie I love to say "Ummmm…either “It’s a Wonderful Life” oooorrrrr…“Pulp Fiction” "

didn’t really like anything else Tarantino’s done though

I loathed Mike Judge’s *Beavis and Butthead * and was lukewarm to his King of the Hill, so I avoided **Office Space ** until its growing reputation as a cult favorite persuaded me to rent it. Now it’s one of my favorite comedies from the past 20 years.

Idiocracy was a mixed bag, though.
