So there I was teaching Daisy how to stay and occasionally rewarding her with a cool little chewable beef and cheddar flavored treat that she absolutely loves. She was doing great and couldn’t get enough of the little snack. After about 10 minutes it occured to me just how good this thing smelled. It was soft, seemed chewy, not at all crunchy like other dog treats. At this point, it felt good and smelled good. Daisy sure seemed to like it.
Hmmm, the wife is not home. No one is around. Only Daisy would see me try this and she sure wouldn’t tell. But, it’s dog food. That’s kinda gross. Sure smells tasty. Maybe just a little bite.
So, I ate it. Not my proudest moment but it did taste OK (salty, kinda meaty). I don’t ever have to do it again, but my curiousity is fulfilled. Time to go brush my teeth twice before I give my wife a welcome home kiss.
I haven’t been caught eating dog food since I was about 4.
My mom caught me on my hands and knees, sharing a snack with our dog. I figured if it was good enough for my best buddy… it was good enough for me!
Hey! Not fair! I’ve never shared anything I shouldn’t!
I’ve never eaten dog biscuits but I my friend Keay has. They were giving them away at the liquor store. The owner urged us to try them and said lots of guys like them as a snack while drinking.
When I was a kid I ate a couple of ‘Gaines Burgers’. You know, the dog food shaped like a hamburger. If I remember correctly, I didn’t think they tasted all that bad.
My parents, on the other hand, didn’t think that should be part of a well balanced, nutritious, diet. They nixed my plans pretty early on. They wanted me eating Fruity Pebbles instead.
Dogs absolutely LOVE Frosty Paws. My GF’s dog would lick that little cup non-stop (about 5 minutes) until there was nothing left. Of course, I had to see (taste) what the big damn deal was. So you don’t have to experience it firsthand, I’ll tell you now…it tastes like PlayDough – not good.
Angkins-you’re lucky the dog didn’t bite you. (My dog growls if someone goes tooo near her food when she’s eating it…except for one of our cats-she shares then.)
Well, I ate the milk bones when I was a kid. I didn’t learn about the Eazy Cheeze till later, in the Air Force. your tax dollars at work, ladies and gentlemen.
My husband once tried canned dog food. He’d been feeding his dog the kind of canned stuff that looks and smells like real beef stew and had been curious about what it would taste like. He took one bite, spat it out and had to gargle with beer to try to get rid of the taste – he says it was the most disgusting thing he’d ever tried. However, he loves dog biscuits – especially the black charcoal ones. (Ick!)
Ok once I was eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and my dog was real interested in it. So, I tore off a piece and let him eat it. He ate all of the little piece and licked the peanut butter off my finger. He looked so funny eating the peanut butter that I gave him another taste of just the PB. Then I finished the sandwich and licked my fingers. That’s when my sister the dog-hater pointed out that I had in my mouth the same finger that the dog had just finished licking. It didn’t bother me, but my sister was grossed out.
Don’t sweat it mojo, I hear dog spit is much cleaner than people spit. My brother used to eat dog biscuits when he was a kid but I never tried them. shrug
Milkbones were my favorite. My mom would by the extra-large size, and I shared them with my dog. I tried some pupperoni once, but didn’t care for it. Strangely, my dog doesn’t like it either…she can’t stand any of the ‘soft’ dog treats, for that matter.
I ate a dog biscuit once. Someone fed it to me while I was blindfolded. If I remember correctly, it didn’t have much of a taste, but the texture was absolutely disgusting.
There are/were these dog treats that were kind of like those Combos snack thingies. Kind of a bread thing on the outside, and a reddish inner stuff. I think they were supposed to look like bones full of marrow.Anyway, my brothers and I used to speculate what those would taste like. We never were brave enough to try. However, my brother and I did try milk bones. I remember they are pretty bland and kind of nasty in texture. Also, begginstrips smell pretty good…
