A couple years ago swarms of “painted lady” butterflies came into town. They first showed up in mid April and by May when I walked across the yard hundreds would fly up and whirl around my head like a flock of winged monkeys. Everywhere I went they were mobbing the flowers or zipping up and down the street like maniacs. Then around the first of June the population dropped and I started finding dead ones on the sidewalks. By the end of summer they were pretty much gone, and I only saw about 4 or 5 the entire following summer.
“fresh instead of frozen”.
Dangit, freshwater instead of saltwater.
When I was living up in Richardson (at UTD), my first fall there we had a Biblical-style plague of crickets. The hallway outside my apartment door was black with the little buggers. Spraying liberally with Raid accomplished nothing but creating large piles of dead crickets. Driving through parking lots, you would hear a constant crackling as thousands of crickets met their doom. One of my neighbors stupidly left their patio door open one afternoon, and hundreds of the stupid things got in. They would crawl up your pants leg while you were sitting around. They would crawl out of the A/C ducts. You would wake up at night with them crawling over your face. Standing outside, you would be constantly pelted with them. You would have to shake out your shoes before putting them on.
Luckily, after about 3 weeks it got cold and they all died. To this day, I will kill any cricket I see.
I HATE CRICKETS!
Also, every spring and fall mass amounts of noisy black birds congregate in Houston parking lots, blotting out the sun and causing trees to turn into squirming black objects. Does anyone know what kind of birds these are?
