I can't figure this out on my new Samsung phone (RE: downloaded app icons)

Didn’t really pick this phone for any reason other than my old one met and abrupt end (it had lived a good life, and didn’t suffer). I needed a new one ASAP, and it was the best I could afford (second highest price for my plan, but less than half of the most expensive). The old one was well out of warranty, even the extended one.

It’s a Galaxy A14 5G

Supposedly there’s a user manual I can get to through settings, but all I get when I tap on it is a message that the user manual is not available in the language I selected; searching online did not provide an answer to what you’d think would be a very simple question either: How do I get homepage icons for Google Play apps I download?

First couple of things I did after setup were to download apps for my bank, and Kindle, and after I opened them, I expected to find icons on the page you get to when you tab down to unused icons. Nothing.

I’ve tried everything I can think of, and reset everything that looked like it might change a relevant setting. Nothing.

Anyone else know anything about this phone, or ever encountered this situation?

On my Galaxy S22, swiping up from the home screen displays all the apps, and it also brings up a search box to search for a particular app.

Once you have located the app in question, a long press on its icon will bring up a menu in which one of the options is ‘Add to Home Screen’. Or you can press and drag the icon to whatever page you want.

I know about swiping to display all the icons-- the ones from newly downloaded apps are not there.
