OK, I can’t log in to Hotmail from my home computer at home. Here’s the deal:
I took the computer to the repair shop last week for repair (slow performance, frequent crashes, etc.). The Computer Guy ran virus scans, zapped trojans, sacrificed a chicken, etc. and called me yesterday to say it’s working just fine. I told him about my hotmail issue. He logged on to his hotmail account, from the ISP there at the computer shop, just fine.
At work, I can log in to my Hotmail account just fine.
Here at home, I can’t log in to my Hotmail account, or Mrs. HeyHomie’s account, or anything related to MSN (groups, games, etc.) at all. I get the old “The Page Cannot Be Displayed” message. I tried to create a new Hotmail account - same message.
I’ve concluded that there’s something about my ISP, or my computer logging on from my ISP, that MSN doesn’t like. Or maybe my ISP doesn’t like MSN. Either way, I’d love to know how to fix this.
Would that really result in such a problem?
W/o cookies wouldn’t you just have to re-enter you name and password?
“At work, I can log in to my Hotmail account just fine.”
So you account is still functional on Hotmail’s end
“He logged on to his hotmail account, from the ISP there at the computer shop, just fine.”
So the computer doesn’t have a particular issue w/ hotmail. (unless something’s changed since then. We have no reason to believe that any changes have occurred since the tech logged in correct? You had himlog in AFTER you had already beguin having trouble logging in, right?
“I can’t log in to my Hotmail account, or Mrs. HeyHomie’s account, or anything related to MSN (groups, games, etc.) at all”
Can you still access MSN web pages if you don’t try to log in? When exactly do you get the error message? After typing in you username and password and clicking submit?
Does it happen the same way every single time?
Not so with Hotmail, it just hates browsers with the cookies turned off. In Firefox I have it configured to ask for permission to set cookies. Works fine for the most part but not with Hotmail. I access hotmail through Netscape, when I feel the need to access Hotmail, that is.
Looks like cookies turned off or the computer guy possibly increased the security level to help deter the viruses.
In XP, Start->Control Pane->Internet Options/Privacy. Set it to Medium and see how that goes.
I can access any MSN page that doesn’t require logging in. So I can go to msn.com and see the content there, but I can’t log in to my.msn.com or groups.msn.com or whatever.
I get the error message after I type in my usermane and click “submit.” It happens the same way every single time.
Sometimes its a problem with the cookies. A cookie is set matching your account to a server, something changes at Hotmail’s end or whatever, then you can’t log in to that account from that PC.
I would delete all Hotmail, MSN, and Microsoft cookies and then you’ll start fresh.
